Bono wins it for me because of his powerful vocals also. Jagger's a more iconic frontman on stage easily but it's hard to compare anyway - Jagger's like 17 years older than Bono. Whatever anyone thinks, it's cool to see two bands like these that have been around for decades still showing the young folks how to do it!

@ matt:
are there any bootlegs/gigs where they played 'stay (far away so close)' the same way as the proper album version? because the only live gigs i've heard they play it acoustic (the acoustic version is great don't get me wrong but i was wondering if they ever did a full band version)

I don't think they've ever played it in its entire form - even on Zoo TV it was performed acoustically. It would be interesting to hear but I think they must have found it difficult to recreate the electronic sounds from the album version. For me though, it's their best song along with Love Comes Tumbling.

cheers, yeah i agree it's one of their best.... and even though zooropa isn't considered to be one of their stronger/more popular albums, i dig it and in my opinion, 'stay...' saves that album (can you imagine that album without that song on it) .... i've always liked the tune with johnny cash as well

im sure there's a u2 bootleg forum called the spiral staircase so there's a good chance you'll find sty on there performed properly,i guess you'll have to d/l loads of gigs to maybe find a version like that.

So is there actually a live electric version of Stay - if so, have you heard it? It's certainly something I'd die to hear - I know for sure they always do it acoustic but perhaps their earlier Zoo TV performances with the Zooropa tunes might have it.

Cheers eva and songbird11. Like yourselves, I've been searching high and low, but there's no evidence of it. I'm amazed it's not one of their big hits though - great lyrics and everything.
