If following article outtakes are correct I think that adding Starkey to the Oasis line up would be the big boost Oasis needs to get back in the US rock headlines in my humble opinion. One could argue wether he is musically the most suitable drummer but from a music biz point of view they can't go wrong. Anything associated with the Beatles has the US audience perk up. The press would will go along with this and I can assure you that sales numbers for an Oasis tour would look up on this side of the pond. On the other hand I don't know what kind of deal the WHO have with Zak beyond the current touring engagement......
Latest headlines: (SKY,Ananova,XFM,NME)
A band source said: "Zak has been desperate to play with Oasis for a while.
"He's a big fan - and they're big Beatles fans - so everyone is happy."
Zak has spent the last two days rehearsing with the Gallagher brothers in north London. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Beatles-loving Oasis have taken their obsession one step further by rehearsing with Ringo Starr's son Zak.
The band have been without a drummer since Alan White's departure earlier in the year, and have now been reported to be grooming Zak Starkey for the vacant position.
Zak Starkey is a renowned session musician and regularly plays with the surviving members of The Who.

i don't mean any offense, but i just passionately disagree. i think if the band hired zak starkey as a full time member of any kind it would only make oasis more of a punchline in america and american press than they already are.
i can see it now: "Oasis Still Thinks They're the Beatles"
"Oasis Desperate: Hires Zak Starkey on Drums"
"Oasis Literally Become Beatles Cover Band"
"Oasis Will Never Shake Beatles Mold"
"Pathetic Oasis Resort to Media Stunt"
"Oasis Become Full-Fledged Joke"
it of course has nothing to do with the band or drumming, but, i don't think it would help their standing. actually, i think the best move the band has made with the american press was working with death in vegas. liam's involvement with scorpio rising, while it didnt receive a ton of press, got only positive reviews and discussion. death in vegas are completely respected and pairing oasis with them wouldve gotten them some respect by association. i hope some of the div tracks make the record for this reason and because they'll probably be kind of interesting and good.

I'm not sure if the band really care about their standing anymore. As they said about SOTSOG and HC, it's for the fans because they're a fans band!

"Pathetic Oasis Resort to Media Stunt" "Oasis Become Full-Fledged Joke" great band, great drummer , headlines seem a bit far fetched unless they come from some local college's rag

yes, the headlines are far fetched, but i just dont see how any move by the band that involves the band choosing to become more associated with the beatles could be a media-saavy one, when most of the public awareness of oasis has to do with the 'oasis thinks theyre the beatles' joke.
i mean jay leno, big buffoon, still (!) makes "oasis thinks theyre the beatles" jokes

I told a friend of mine who's more of an Iggy fan than anything else that they are talking to Zak, he replied count me in when they come on tour with them...he's a musician and knew that Zak was into Beatles style music, thinks it's the perfect fit.......

I cant see something like media headlines putting oasis off doing anything because oasis are more in control of their carear and their fame than jordan because theyve got talent to back up their fame with. The media could just stop writing about jordan and no one would care anymore. I think if oasis think zak starkey is the right man they will get him regardless of what the headlines may be.
