When I first got into Oasis it was basically stressed to me through here and popular culture that BHN was a completely shit album with no redeeming qualities. I listened to DYKWIM and I thought it was a great tune but to me that was expected because it was the lead single. Listened to Stand by Me and thought it was the biggest load of over-produced noise I'd ever heard in my life (love it now though) so didn't give the rest of the album much of a chance.
Made myself sit through the whole album a couple of weeks later and songs like IHIKIK and The Girl in the Dirty Shirt amazed me because I couldn't believe such great songs could be on this much-maligned record in the first place and why I hadn't heard anyone talking about them before.
Very underrated song and album.

When I first got into Oasis it was basically stressed to me through here and popular culture that BHN was a completely shit album with no redeeming qualities. Very underrated song and album. It was the same for me. I already knew DM and MG (obviously great) and HC + DBTT (a lot worse), so I believed BHN would be about the same level as the latter two. And if you look at it from that point of view, it gets a lot better...unlike the public in 1997 I had no blown-up expectations at all. Instead, I was blown away by how close it was to the quality of its predecessors. TGITDS is a perfect example of a BHN song that is not overproduced or (much) too long. Might be my favorite on the album after AATW.

I agree that as time goes on and the further we are removed from the big hoopla surrounding the album in the '90s, Be Here Now as an album will be looked at more fondly.

I always smile when Noel sings, "maybe, she'll come to my house for tea." Don't know why. It's just the way he sings it. Yup. Me too. Me too! I love that version and specially that part. It's weird cause now when I sing the song I always sing that line..

This is the most recent thread I can bump for this but I'd really like to make my love this song public.
One of Oasis' most underrated songs in my book. A brilliant melody in the verses and in the chorus, an excellent vocal from Liam and just a great summery, happy vibe.
This is also one of the few songs on Be Here Now that doesn't feel overloaded with guitars or cocaine.

I thought Spaneli came out of hiding/retirement to post this thread.

This song and Don't Go Away were really well executed, and like you said, weren't overloaded with guitars or cocaine, thankfully, because they're two songs that didn't need (an excess of) it. Wish they would've done the same for Stand by Me, and All Around the World, to a certain extent.

Such a tune! Could almost have been Wonderwall Part 2 if it had been released? Either way, it's such a good song. Beautiful almost

That is one of my favorites all time oasis songs. The couple of this and IHITIK was incredible!! The bridge is slightly look like to the SBM chorus, that's why I suppose that it wasn't a single. But it should have been it!
For me, in all oasis album the second one line of song are the truly essencia tunes!

It sounds like Rowe was jamming out in the studio one day while the mic was on, and the band heard it so they recorded it & used it. Or in other words, like Little James, except waaay better.

Always have had a soft spot for this one, ever since I first heard BHN. A brilliant poppy melody, a nice bouncy rhythm, and the brothers give two outstanding vocals. It is loaded with a bunch of sounds - slide guitar, keys, pop blues guitar riffs but it isn't bloated like a lot of BHN's other material. Noel's backing vocals are some the best that he's ever done. Think this one would have been a lot of fun live, I guess Liam/Noel couldn't be arsed with it. One of the few Oasis songs that is pretty dance friendly.
A top ten, maybe even top five under appreciated Oasis tune. Just a fun summery song. Definitely one of BHN's strongest tracks. Top half of the album for sure.

But Noel did perform Girl in the Dirty Shirt live, at least in the infamous gig at the point(in the liamless bootleg"Noel gets to the point) in the BHN tour, so I must guess it was a Liam issue more than Noel's.

Yeah, but two times isn't enough! You're right though. I think this is a case similar to Digsy's Dinner, where Liam just can't be fucked.

He still plays Wonderwall which was originally about Meg. The meaning of that song seemed to change soon after they divorced. Hmm...

He could play The Girl In The Dirty Shirt followed by The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes! It's probably my favourite BHN song and it would be great to hear it get blasted out.

Would have been a good b-side but considering the pressure on this album I can't really justify it's place. Especially when Stay Young and Going Nowhere were left off. Liam's vocal though, as with all of Be Here Now, are top.

One of the first from BHN for me to learn on guitar... there are a lot of interesting chord changes here!
The reason I think this is not a highlight, nor mentioned not even around here, is that it lacks a proper typical oasis way of unleashing the song, it sounds as though it's always telling a story, verse, bridge and chorus always look like there's a transition going on, towards something or an ending that never happens. The song flies the same altitude throughout it's lenght. The drums never change a lot really, that must be the reason.

This song is so intrinsically linked to Meg, he'll never do it live. One might say the same about Wonderwall, but I feel one of the reasons he does the Ryan Adams version live is so he can distance himself from the true original sentiment behind the song, whilst at the same time attempting to please those who want to hear the song live.
He probably hates it anyway, along with most of the rest of Be Here Now.
