Something of a daring title for a first thread (and post!), but never mind. Always been my style. And I'll admit it's exagerating my point a little, but at least it'll get my message accross. I just noted Paul Stacey's name turning up repeatedly on Oasis album credits, and decided to do some research. Ended up editing his page on Wikipedia to fully list/detail his contrubtions to the band (I'm a long time Wikipedia editor), but curious as to how aware people on here are of him? I don't know if he really, relative to the band and their producers, was a huge influence on their sound. But he did turn up so often, in so many different roles, that I think the lack of discussion on him is a mild surprise (I've been lurking on here long before now, and other Oasis/related bands boards). Now and again I've seen his name come up in connection with any hints he has on information regarding the band, but rarely are his own contributions really assessed. Obviously he never toured with the band, but in the studio he can be heard on more tracks than Zak Starkey (or Guigsy, depending who you talk to!). Infact, if you look at the band's post-Britpop era, he's the only man who was involved on their first release of that entire period ("Go Let It Out") who was there at the end for "Falling Down", with the exception of Noel Gallagher. Summary of Paul Stacey's work with Oasis (excludes fact he was probably engineer on all SOTSOG/HC b-sides too, as I can't track down confirmation on that): Standing on the Shoulder of Giants album (2000)* Engineer (whole album) * Bass ("Who Feels Love?", "Gas Panic!", "I Can See a Liar", "Roll It Over") * Keyboards, additional lead guitar ("Fuckin' in the Bushes") * Backwards guitar ("Who Feels Love?") * Acoustic guitar ("Where Did It All Go Wrong?") Familiar to Millions live album/video (2000)* Co-producer/editor (entire album/video) Heathen Chemistry album (2002)* Engineer (entire album) * Mellotron ("The Hindu Times") * Hammond Organ ("Little By Little") * Piano ("Force of Nature,", "Hung in a Bad Place", "Better Man") "Little By Little/She Is Love" single (2002)* Backing vocals/guitar ("My Generation" live in studio) Don't Believe the Truth album (2005)* Mixer ("Mucky Fingers") * Piano/mellotron ("Let There Be Love) "Let There Be Love" single (2005)* Mixer/piano ("Sittin' Here In Silence (On My Own)" Dig Out Your Soul album (2008)* Producer/mixer ("The Turning (Alt Version #4)") - included on Japanese edition, limited edition Korean tour edition, special edition bonus CD * Producer/mixer ("Waiting for the Rapture (Alt Version #2)") - included on special edition bonus CD, also on Japanese version of "I'm Outta Time" single "Falling Down" single (2009)* Producer ("These Swollen Hand Blues") Just thought this might provoke an interesting set of thoughts, is all. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Stacey - there's his Wikipedia page, with a nice table of the singles he's been involved in

You missed guitar solo on Roll It Over: Noel in NME, 2000:
"[The guy who plays the solo] is Paul 'Strangeboy' Stacey. He was the engineer on the album and did all the demos with me. We were doing the demo for 'Roll It Over' in the studio at Supernova Heights and it got to the bit for the solo and I couldn't play it. So he did. We listened back, it was good, and left it on the demo and we were going to re-do it when we came to record it. But as luck would have it, we never got the sound back that matched that so we just left it. But I can play it, honest. I can."

I hope this dude is involved in the NG solo project in some way, he seems to have been involved in most of Noel's most interesting songs and productions post BHN.

Ian Robertson was the 'fifth Beatle' in the early days, but yes, Strangeboy does seem to be quite a prominent figure in later Oasis.

We all know BigUn was the unsung hero of Oasis.
He keeps telling us.
And if we don't believe him, he'll try to sue us.
No-one would deny that he's a "member".

He also played a live acoustic set with Noel at The Forum in Kentish Town around 1997/98 this was a Kosovo beifit gig and the first time Noel played his cover of Bitter Sweet Symphony

That's what I want to know. ;D Ere Noel joined liams band do u know your history, bonehead created the sound of oasis,Noel stepped in 12 months after with his poetry,it was put on a plate for him!! oasis pre Noel sounded baggy, oasis on DM don't sound baggy. I don't think Bonehead had much to do with the "oasis" sound.

BONEHEAD created the sound of oasis? this is so totally false I don't even know where to begin. Sure, he helped work out the instrumentation for some of Noel's songs, but he had nothing to do with the sound or style of Oasis. Before Noel joined, Oasis sounded more or less like a weird Stone Roses cover band with worse songs. It was a big leap from that to Definitely Maybe.
