MEG Mathews, ex-wife of Oasis star Noel Gallagher, is planning to marry a criminal on the run. Her businessman fiance Kris Flynn fled to Spain after failing to turn up at court for sentencing on a dangerous driving conviction.

The millionaire wheeler-dealer feared he would get a prison sentence after the judge warned him the case was so serious he could be jailed.

Flynn - who is planning to marry Meg next year - was due to appear at Reading Crown Court, but a warrant was issued for his arrest when he didn't turn up.

Gallagher is said to be "very concerned" about Meg's new relationship. A close friend revealed: "He is furious that Meg plans to live permanently in Spain because he is worried about having access to his daughter Anais, who is only three.

"The news that Flynn is now on a wanted list fills him with dread - he wants to know what sort of bloke he is and what's going on.

"Noel wants some answers quickly. He is very unhappy about the sort of environment his daughter could be in."

Flynn, 31, was charged with dangerous driving after tearing through Maidenhead, Berkshire, in his Audi A6.

He raced through the town, pulling away from one roundabout at 90mph and then careering around another the wrong way.

The court heard he then accelerated to 100mph, speeding through roadworks where men were working.

Police officers saw him eventually lose control, hit a hedge, catapult into the air, crash down on the boot and tailgate lights before the car righted itself.

The accident, in February 2001, resulted in him smashing his pelvis and injuring his ankle.

Flynn was also charged with assault on a traffic policeman with intent to resist arrest but the judge, Mr Josh Lait, ordered that charge to lie on file.

Mr Lait said: "What happened was a series of abhorrent events for which there is no explanation."

Flynn was released on unconditional bail for probation reports to be compiled. He was due to be sentenced on August 31, 2001.

Meg, who won a £4million divorce settlement after her three-year marriage to Gallagher crumbled, has been dating Flynn since June.

Before that he lived with another woman, Sarah Smith, for five years. The couple, who have a three-year-old daughter, split up earlier this year.

Flynn fell for Meg, 36, at a party and popped the question two months ago.

She celebrated by showing off her £30,000 diamond engagement ring at a lunch at London's trendy Nobu restaurant with her close pals Kate Moss, Sadie Frost and Tracey Emin.

Flynn is understood to have several business interests in Southern Spain and lives in a smart £350,000 white-washed villa near the millionaire's playground of Puerto Banus.

This week Meg has been driving around the resort in a new top-of-the-range black convertible BMW.

She plans to move to Spain permanently in the New Year.

Gallagher has since found love with Scottish PR girl Sara MacDonald and bought her a £20,000 diamond engagement ring from Tiffany's last year.

Last night Flynn's former lover Sarah refused to comment at her home near Egham, Surrey.
