Is The Good Rebel an actual unreleased song? or a fake song title? I can't seem to find any official quotes on it.

I'm a bit behind on the Noel news, but when was this song mentioned? And why is it coming up now?

That songtitle is from waaaay back. I think it stems from around the late Heathen Chemistry days/early recording sessions of Don't Believe The Truth. I think Noel might have mentioned the title in an interview, but don't hold me up on that.

from an old nme article
NOEL GALLAGHER has revealed to NME.COM that OASIS already have an album's worth of new songs written for their next album. Speaking last week, Noel said that between him, guitarist Gem Archer and brother Liam Gallagher, 13 songs are now written for the follow-up to 'Heathen Chemistry'. No date has yet been set for the release of the new album and it's not expected until late 2004 at the earliest. "I've got about five songs done, Liam's got about six, and Gem's got a couple," Noel said. Liam also spoke about his songs, telling NME.COM: "My songs are the best fucking songs in the world - I write the best fucking songs in the world." Although the band have been 'officially' taking a year off, an impromptu set from Noel and Gem at The Bandits' Bandwagon club night in Liverpool (May 3) featured newie 'Stop The Clocks' and gave fans a glimpse into what the new album might sound like. Other working titles for tracks are rumoured to be 'They Ain't Got Nothing On Me', 'They Ain't `Got Nothing On You', 'Longer', 'Singin' Your Life', 'You Wanna Feel My Shame', 'Say It', 'Revolution Man' and 'The Good Rebel'. Noel revealed that the set in Liverpool was actually the result of a bet he made with a friend. He said: "I bet that if Man City won, I'd get up and play. I only said it because I didn't think that they'd win, so it came as a bit of a shock."

Noel reckons it sounds like Rain by The Beatles from an interview in 08/09. I cant for the life of me find it but it was for some European magazine and was when Mile High Moon was first mentioned.
It usually gets mentioned every time Noel's released something new ever since HC, i doubt we'll ever hear it but i also never thought we'd hear The Roller so you never know. Noel usually puts one song meant to be on an album before the last one that gets released on a new album (AATW- demoed during DM era put on BHN, LTBL-demoed during SOTSOG, put on DBTT, GOYHHL demoed for HC put on DOYS) so maybe this time we'll get a DBTT leftover like The Good Rebel on Noel's album.

I thought the Good Rebel was supposed to be a Neil Young sounding song, but I suppose I remembered that wrong.
Anyone remember 'Sing (If the Song's Worth Singin)?

Noel once mentioned Shout It Out Loud sounded like Neil Young.before it was released. It's tough to say if the Good Rebel is a real song from that article. Notably when it's among other fake titles.

Thanks, haven't read this interview before - great stuff! Quote Noel: "N: The good Rebel yeah! That is a real good demo of that! Sounds like, it sounds like Rain by the Beatles crossed with Tambourine man by Bob Dylan!"

Interesting how he mentions Revolution Song in that interview - says he tried to re-record it four months earlier (prior to the interview in 2009). Would be good to hear a beefed up version of it - maybe a b-side?

I am remember reading that interview maybe two years ago or something like that. I always figured it to be a fake. Doesn't feel like Noel quotes to me. Calling Liam a fuckface? That is a new word for Noel. Never heard him use that phrase before. Something doesn't add up in this interview. No other major publications picked up on what was said about unreleased songs that he comments on.
