So, with The Queen Is Dead being 25 years old, what is the best Smiths album? Yeah okay, I'm excluding The Queen Is Dead (and compilations - of which there are endless) from this poll as it will most probably win hands down so which one of the other three studio albums sits alongside that seminal album? Decisions don't come any more difficult in life!
My favourite is the self titled debut - personally think it's the equal of The Queen Is Dead.

No question about it, Meat Is Murder. Barbarism begins at home has to be one of the smiths top five songs. Morrissey's lyrics on this track and throughout this whole album are like no other. Headmaster ritual, no where fast, what she said, all rockers. Johnny's guitar on this album is pure caramels with strawberries bouncing off stain glass windows. This captures the Smiths at their BEST!

Meat Is Murder. matt, listen to the intro of the first track "The Headmaster Ritual", then you'll know what I and jillam mean and "Barbarism Begins At Home" has got the masterpiece of Andy Rourke.
Probably my most all the time favourite The Smiths album is "Hatfull Of Hollow", but I just can't pick one cos all of their albums are so special to me.

Barbarism Begins At Home probably has the most impressve outro along with The Queen Is Dead - shows how underrated Andy Rourke is. My favourite of Meat Is Murder however is Well I Wonder. Beautiful tune, love it - I think it's a forgotton gem personally.
