in number of hits/views. With a little under three months of having gone live, the Roller has receeived around 2.7 million hits. Meanwhile after 2 and half years, the official video for The Shock of The Lightning has around 3.4 million views. I found this rather interesting since both of them were the 1st singles released from their respective albums, and let's face it, Oasis has the brand name, the fans, the big labels behind them, not to mention their youtube channel has EIGHT times as many subscribers as BDI's .

You and Rolo account for about a quarter of those hits i'd imagine.

This doesn't mean much to me.
I know that most of the people that watch the video have also heard TSOTL and as we have seen on polls on here most of the fan-base seems to prefer TSOTL as a song.
The determining fact is how many of the people that hear it and buy the tune...and judging by chart positions it seems to have sold substantially less that TSOTL.

TSOTL is an upbeat song and much more commercial than TR but still... it's interesting that it has gotten so many hits in such a short period of time. TSOTL is also a better song imo but not by much. people buy music less each day, but the view count on youtube is something that can't be argued with.

I just went to the video and it shows almost 1.9 million views. Where'd you get 2.7 from? ...on a side note, when you type in beady eye - the roller in youtube now, it gives you the official video from the "BeadyEyeVEVO" page, not the one from beadyeyeofficial. Guess the official beady eye youtube page wasn't good enough for them.

I don't know about that - it surely is a good thing that so many people are getting to know BDI. Sales are one thing, publicity is another. At this stage of BDI's career I think publicity is worth more.

That's a bit sneaky and unrealistic. How many of those 850k are Oasis fans that would listen to the audio and then of course want to watch the video as well? That's ridiculous. You can probably take out almost 500k from the number for those duplicates alone. This whole thing just became twice as pointless.

Yeah, TSOTL has over 1.7 million plays on Myspace. Guess we better add those in. That makes it 5.4 million +
Oh snappage. Case closed!

Case reopened:
How many of these views are unique views and not the same group playing it over and over?
Answer: we don't know.

It is the first legitimate single off a debut record . . . of course it is getting a lot of hits. That said, it doesn't mean much with respect to popularity or quality of music. Hell, Rebecca Black has 55 million views of her shite 'Friday'! It means nothing.

Shock of the Lightning got to number 3, The Roller got to number 33(?).
If it was as popular it wouldn't have charted about 30 places below TSOTL.
End of.

That just means people weren't willing to shell out money and they just decided to rip the audio. People were more willing to buy Oasis because it was Oasis. And plus the Roller really suffered from a bad plan of release.

Along with all the other valid criticisms, it's also unrealistic to compare official pages. How many times has TSOTL been reposted under different usernames? Probably a lot more than The Roller. Thus, taking that into account, I'm sure TSOTL has more overall youtube views (spanning every possible username it was posted under, and not limiting it to the official site) than TR.

While the concept of comparing official Youtube hits is utterly flawed, I do think that The Roller was better received - relatively speaking. Shock of the Lightning has the Oasis name behind it so of course it will be more popular, but I know a lot of people who thought it was Oasis-by-numbers and a poor attempt to recreate former glories. The Roller doesn't have the publicity, but a higher percentage of those who have listened seem to like it. All in my experience of course.

Yeah I agree. I read from many sources that TSOTL was a return to form.

I do agree with gdforever here although, like he said, it can be a sign of good publicity. NL4E had made an extremely strong argument yet it is a positive thing that it got so much views in little time: this is a proof of continuing interest towards Oasis and its crew.
