I think DGSS (keeping everything constant, and Noel still in the group - just imagine Noel wrote some of the songs on DGSS if you're having trouble with this concept) is the natural successor to DBTT.
Of course DBTT has better lyrics, mainly because of you know who. But the album has the same vibe. It's light, fresh, and melodic.
I do like DOYS, but to me it made no sense to follow up DBTT with that kind of album. I think DGSS-type of record would have been the best to follow up the 2005 effort.
Thoughts?

DGSS as follow up does make sense, especially if Noel wrote some songs that that fit the vibe of DGSS, then I think it would've been a great succession.
DOYS sounded to me, what Noel wanted SOTSOG to sound like. I think DOYS would've been a nice thing to do after a DBTT and DGSS, just because I don't think they could've done 3 albums like that, some people might have clamored for some more rocking tunes like what's on DOYS (BIU, The Turning TSOTL, FD).
But yeah, I could see the DGSS album being a great follow to DBTT, if you took out some of the less popular songs and put about 4 Noel songs that could capture the vibe of the album. But I do think that there is only so far that they could've gone with that format. Because I think after 2 albums, fans would've wanted a DOYS type album.
edit: I will say this though, I think that 2 songs that would've better if they had had the Oasis wall of sound would've been B&S and BTL (I'm not saying they're bad songs, just that they could've been better), just because they are in a Jerry Lee Lewis/Phil Spector kind of style, and those songs are literally begging for some wall of sound treatment.

I like DOYS so I don't have an issue with it following DBTT, but I get what you're saying. They are similar in overall sound/vibe. They would certainly go well one after the other.
I can't think of anything else to add...probably shouldn't even post this.

Agree that DGSS with four or five Noel songs replacing the weaker songs would have made a classic and a natural follow up to DBTT. DBTT is for me the best oasis album since MG.
I actually think you can compare doys to bhn. Imagine the first part of DOYS coming out after MG. That would seem very natural to me. If BHN had the sound of DOYS it would be a classic!

Yeah, DGSS is like DBTT without Noel. Remember that there was a thread here asking how DGSS would sound like and many answered it would sound like DBTT and then it really sounded.
Talking about DOYS succeeding DBTT for me was a great deal, remeber that DBTT in a way is similar to HC, so 3 similar albums is a bad thing imo, so the heavy/blues/psychedelic sound of DOYS was nice and refreshing.

DBTT is the best oasis album after BHN easily. It is the most tuneful and the least plodding. The only thing that sucks in that album is liam's singing..it is atrocious...except 'lyla'(which is a shit song anyway) and parts of 'let there be love'(although he kills the feeling of that song in parts with some of his raspiness).
He butchers 'love like a bomb','keep the dream alive'(the verses) and 'a bell will ring'.Other than that it is probably the least grating oasis album start to finish.
DGSS is almost perfect in all of the departments(production, energy, arrangements, vocals) except songwriting. The only near-perfect song is obviously'the beat goes on'.
All of the other songs are decent to good except 'bring the light' which even the energetic production cannot disguise the fact that it is a bad song.
All in all, both are the best albums since BHN.
