This album has one thing that the last 4 oasis albums lacked. It has spirit. The production is colourful and exciting. The songs are upbeat and they never grate on the ear like most of the oasis productions. All of their albums should have been produced with that care and attention to detail, like this one.
The people who say that it is derivative and too much like the beatles, should never forget that oasis were AS MUCH DERIVATIVE BUT THEY DISGUISED IT UNDER WAVES OF OBNOXIOUS DISTORTION AND TREBLE to appeal to the grunge rock fans of the era.
The songs are melodic and they make you want to move, unlike the plodding self-sabotaging recordings of the great oasis songs.Even the ballads on this album, are not painfully slow like so many good oasis songs which were so slow and obnoxiously produced, that they became hard to listen to all the way through.
There is no doubt that noel is the better songwriter and the ideal thing would be another oasis album produced like this one, full of freshness. After all,it is much better to sound like the beatles, than fucking nirvana and the sex pistols and i hope that beady eye will produce their second album in a similar way.

I also like some nirvana songs but the sex pistols are so bad,it's not even funny how overrated they are..

I think it is fair to say that every song that Liam has sung has sounded like the Sex Pistols so not particularly sure what you're on about

Sex Pistols underrated? While they did only make one album and later fall into a complete mess, when they were good, they were very very good. Nevermind the Bollocks still stands up today as intense, powerful, and provocative as it ever was.

Agree, enjoying this album more tahn the alst few oasis albums I have to say.
Maybe the songs aren't as good (but maybe they are, if I like it so much?) but I agree it feels fresh and alive, can't put my finger on it.

Well said. The album reminds be of DBTT. Funny thing, I was remebering today that thread which asked how BE album would sound like, and then many sayed it will sound like DBTT, and in fact sounds a lot like DBTT.

The <songs> aren't as good, but I've been arguing since release that it's a wholly more cohesive, creative and enjoyable experience than most Oasis albums after WTSMG.
It's funny how DBTT gets stronger and stronger as the years pass. I have it down as a minor classic at 8.5/10.
DOYS (6.5/10) and SOTSOG (7/10) are too inconsistent (ranging from the absolutely brilliant to the absolutely awful), and HC (5/10) is just uninspiring and flat with the odd nice moment.
DBTT and DGSS I love. DGSS gets 8/10 for me.
