I know this the title is going to generate some drama but it's not the point.
When some changes happen in bands, there's some adjusting to do. When Oasis released DOYS, I didn't like it at first. It was too different from the rest. Couple of weeks later, I started loving it.
When Beady Eye released Bring The Light, like many, I was thrown off. Wtf was that? A Little Richard impersonation. I thought "this is going to be bad" and, like many, I assumed it was because Noel wasn't there. That's partly right because the album would not be what it is with Noel.
Beady Eye lost credibility for me with each move they made. The Bring The Light sleeve which is a copy of the Beatles' "With The Beatles".
Then I heard Four Letter Word and thought "Ah that's more like it". It annoyed me that the sleeve copied the Rolling Stones "December's Children (and everybody's)" and the obvious lyrics rip-off "blown a fifty-amp fuse". I thought that the boys had originality and that they didn't need to copy stuff as much (even though that sort of thing happened even with Noel during Oasis Waiting For The Rapture being a good example).
The Roller bored me. I was expecting rock and roll not ballads.
Then I heard the record and at first had the same disapointment as with The Roller.
After some listening though, my opinions on the record are no longer tinted with the shadow of Oasis.
- Four Letter Word: Proper rocker! Love it! - Millionnaire: Sometimes I skip. I like the lyrics though! - The Roller: A bit boring and forgettable. - Beatles and Stones: Simple rock tune. Like it. - Wind Up Dream: Don't like it. Can't stand the guiro either. - Bring the Light: Love it. Real ear worm and Liam's attitude in the video is just awesome and gives the tone to the whole thing. Normally a video wouldn't do that but that was the first time we'd seen Beady Eye playing together. - For Anyone: Can't stand it. It's candy music. - Kill For a Dream: Now we're talking. Andy wrote a classic tune. - Standing on the Edge of the Noise: With a name like that I had rock expectations. I was disapointed. It WANTS to be a rock song. - Wigwam: This is another Liam classic. The end is a bit too long though. Enough with the sha la la's. And for those who will talk about Hey Jude or All Around The World, those songs annoy me for that reason too. Awesome songs but fuckin' hell they need to finish at some point! - Three Ring Circus: Meh. Skippable. - The Beat Goes On: Nice little number as Liam once said. It's a good song. - The Morning Son: Classic. Too much echo on Liam's voice though.
- Man of Misery: I preffer the demo. It was more rough and edgy. - Sons of the Stage: They do a very good job on this cover. - World Outside My World: Snore... - Two of a Kind: Can't make my mind on this one...I don't like it but I can't say why.
So there you go. Hope some other people in my situation can give it an honest listen and appreciate it for what it is!
Cheers!

i agree about Man of Misery. the demo is better. However, i don't understand why you think BTL is so great, i fucking hate that song(if you can call it a song). THree Ring CIrcus is one of the best song on the album for me. Millionaire is another of highlights imo.

I love Three Ring Circus!!! And if a music video helped you like BTL then you should probably reevaluate your opinion of the song.

The World Outside My Room = snore???
I think its one of my favourite BDI songs, right up there with the best of the album.
But I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Yeah World Outside My Room is a highlight for me, don't think i've skipped over it yet. I can't for the life of me figure out what people enjoy so much about Millionaire though. Boooooriiiiiiiiiing.

It's the energy of Bring The Light I like. The song itself of course is nothing extraordinary. But it's definitely a toe taper and an earworm. It stays in the head. The video, as I explained, helped me see Beady Eye and feel its energy. It would have done the same to me had I seen them play it live.
I can't get my head around World Outsite My Room. It really bores me! It starts good but just drags on.
Millionnaire is a song I sometimes skip to be honest. Sometimes I like it, sometimes not. It's definitely not the best song on the record!
