Why are there more reviews on the US iTunes page than the UK one? The UK should be bigger for BDI, AND they've had it released a day earlier, too....Weird. US population >>>>>>>> UK population it's not rocket science really. all it really takes is to have some good publicity/promo(like being the first thing you see when you log on to the iTunes store). also the price is really cheap and there's a lot of extras that maybe for us the fans isn't anything too exciting since we've already seen it all but to the casual iTunes user it must be something.

just picked up the single disc album at best buy marked $14 but rang up for 8 something. time flies was a greatest hits/singles collection most of which most of the fans already had & i don't remember much of any promotion for that stateside. yup, i got my copy @ BestBuy too. there was only 1 copy on the shelves. i asked for another one and one of the clerks go one from i don't know where and gave it to me. they didn't have the album with the rest of the new releases. oh well...

I asked for it at Best Buy too, today. I had to spell it for him. I think he wanted to type "BDI" haha $8.39 including tax is a bargain, to be honest.

I asked one of the clerks where they had the deluxe edition and the lady just went to the back and got it for me. nl4e : yes, i noticed the 13.99 price tag on the CD but it rang up 7.99 + tax. i was like YES!!!

What boggles my mind is that Best Buy is selling it for ~$8, while Barnes and Noble is selling the regular CD for ~$15....how does that make any sense? What is B&N thinking?

BB is selling the CD at a loss to entice people to purchase the item at their stores and they hope you will buy other things while you're there. B&N and Borders (which recently filed for bankruptcy) probably doesn't have the luxury to sell items at a loss at this point.

I dont think it is at loss. It only cost them like 2 dollars a copy wholesale. My brother worked for Circuit City prior to them going under. CD's are marked up as bad as pizza. It's insane.

I will confess to feeling like a chump for directly ordering from Dangerbird here in the USA. $16.xx shipped for the CD+Extras version. Feel like I just donated $8 to the record label.

It's not just the wholesale price of the CD, it's all the overhead that is involved in a store like best buy. They really need to sell CDs for at least $10 to breakeven.

Thats not entirely the case here, because they are in no way expecting this album to pay their bills. To them, there is no loss here. Other artists will sell well enough that they can easily let these out at the very least at cost.

So I'm hearing that DGSS should have first week sales of 12-15k. Might be just barely enough to scrap the top 20 if its 15k, won't make it, if it's anything less.
Doubt if it stays in the 200 for more than 2 weeks.

So, this is what the top 17 albums look like (on the Billboard 200), going into the weekend. BDI is still being predicted to sell between 12-15k records. US BDI fans gotta step up a bit. (don't ask me why I only have the top 17)
Adele (XL/Columbia) 145-160k *Marsha Ambrosius (J/RMG) 85-90k Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 55-60k Justin Bieber Never Say Never (Island/IDJ) 50-55k Now 37 (Capitol/EMI) 50-55k *Dropkick Murphys (Dropkick Murphys/ILG) 35-40k| Bruno Mars (New Elektra) 30-35k *Aaron Lewis (Stroudavarious) 30-35k Justin Bieber My World 2.0 (Island/IDJ) 30-35k Nicki Minaj (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 28-32k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 28-32k Pink (LaFace/JLG) 27-30k Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 24-27k Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 24-27k Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 21-24k *Lucinda Williams (Lost Highway) 21-24k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 21-24k

12-15k can get you in the top 20? the music industry is in a dismal state indeed.

12-15k can get you in the top 20? the music industry is in a dismal state indeed. Just a couple of weeks ago i read on yahoo Taylor Swift's album was #1 with only 60 thousand copies sold. If you think about it, it all really depends on the week... For example, say if Oasis had released a new album that week, im pretty sure, it would've gone #1, crazy huh?

Yeah, it would've been close that week. I think it would've been short by 7,000, and would've been at #2. But I think if Oasis had come out with an album that week and Oasis fans had known that Oasis could be 7,000 short of a #1 spot, I think they would've bought it in bucket loads just to get to #1.

Entirely untrue for big box stores like Best Buy, you're on Mars with that answer. They're not a music store. They're an electronics/appliance store first and foremost. Stuff like DVDs and CDs are just extra crap that they sell at almost entirely a profit. Their overhead is paid for by the big ticket items that they sell. Not CDs. A lot of record companies even PAY Best Buy to stock their labels' material as well, almost like consignment. The best way to look at CD sales at stores like this is the magazine rack at a grocery store near the checkout. Its an extra thing besides the food. This is why places like Best Buy/Circuit City/etc tend to have the lowest prices. They can afford to charge less whereas a independent record store relies only on music sales to pay their overhead. I dont understand why anyone gets excited for chart positions. It matters absolutely nothing these days. A couple of weeks ago the #1 album in the US sold 40,000 copies that week. The only records being set these days are lows. Whatever high this record is at this week, it will plummet like a stone next. iTunes are even worse gauges because of how their charts work.

exactly, that the week i was referring to, it was a record for lowest sales total by a # 1 album.
