In all seriousness, to me they are brilliant. I agree with Adam Clayton (from U2) in that they are one of the most misunderstood bands of all time and that everyone mistakenly thinks they are for teenage girls simply because of their one massive hit, Take On Me. He also claims they were very creative.
Paul Waaktaar Savoy was a brilliant songwriter who is also just a brilliant lyricist and there's no denying that Morten Harket is an amazing singer. Who else can reach the high notes like he can on Take On Me?!
Perhaps may not like the new-wave style of synths but they're a product of their times and I don't think it takes anything away from the quality of their songs. I think they are just incredible personally.
Not only have they been endorsed by U2, but also by none other than Liam and Noel. At an Oslo concert, Oasis dedicated Rock N Roll Star to a-ha and Liam claims he's been a fan of them for years and described them as 'fucking amazing'. Noel himself is a fan and claims their best song is Train of Thought.
Never been mentioned on this site so what do you think of them?

I like A-Ha. "Take On Me" was/is a great song, loved that promo clip. Very clever! I agree with you matt that they were/are quite misunderstood and underrated. A very talented 3 pieces band. I think globe is an another fan of them.

Like the majority of the 80's (all?)... fucking shit. Even if you don't like A-ha, it would be foolish to classify an entire decade's music as shit. A lot of great bands put out a lot of great music in the 80's: U2, The Stone Roses, The Smiths, REM, the Replacements, etc.

To be honest Take On Me is one the greatest songs of all time. Such a classic. The song is almost perfect.
