www.mtv.com.au/news/c9d39cae-david-guetta-scores-u2-mtv-classic/I love U2 - quite simply one of my favourite bands, but this must be a joke. And particularly when they plan to release a 'dance orientated' album apparently. Is Bono going through a mid life crisis? A bunch of 50 year olds making dance music is enough to make me empty the contents of my stomach. I always thought U2, particularly the U2 from the 80s, made very mature reflective masterpieces considering their young age at the time. This idea just seems like a massive backward step.

God... the last thing they need is a new POP(i love that album but it was right at that time) Imagine the video for the first single... like Discoteque

^Spot on.
But maybe they want to make an album in the vein of the Stone Roses and Kasabian

my understanding is that most of the album is complete. The recent leg of the U2 tour has featured some of these songs.
Check out You Tube for live performances of these songs...
North Star Glastonbury Every Breaking Wave Mercy
Not dance related at all.
The album has a working title of 'Songs Of Ascent.

I'm encouraged by the noises from Songs of Ascent but they said they had about three albums worth of material and they wanted to release a dancey one. Saying that, those songs mentioned from Songs of Ascent sound amazing.

^ Quality tunes - sound better than most things on No Line On The Horizon (despite me thinking it's unfairly criticised).

I love U2 but No Line on the Horizon is possibly one of the worst albums in the history of recorded sound.

No Line On The Horizon has poor production. The quality of the songs seem similar to those of a demo. The song Magnificent has various sudden sound changes where the tempo of the song just drops. The opening song has promise, but the distortion and feedback make it sound like a demo.
I think this album had promise. But for some reason the songs just sound poor. Bono's voice is all over the show, loads of drum loops and some poor production.

There are a few good tunes on the album, but likewise, I think its all over the place. I don't know what direction they were wanting to take on it and a lot of the tunes seem aimless. There's no distinctive sound to it either. I do agree that Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois did a poor job of producing it.

Brian Eno is too concerned with trying to out weird himself.
