Kind of a ridiculous thread... Wonderwall is an all time classic by any standard! A surefire 10/10.
It's universes ahead of The Roller... although I really like that tune and it's a strong release.

Come on. I like The Roller, but there's no comparison with the Oasis tracks.

I've not even read this thread, frankly the thought that The Roller or Stop Crying Your Heart out could even come close to Wonderwall is ludicrous.
Wonderwall is a special, special song. A line like "I don't believe anybody feels the way I do about you now" is just genius.
Noel Gallagher has written some absolute bullshit lyrics in his time but his lyrics in Wonderwall are simple, yet thoughtful & brilliant. A song is not just judged by the song itself, but in what it means to people and what it means in a period of history. Wonderwall is a song that I guarantee millions of people around the world (no exaggeration) think that it is their song... There are so many couples around the world who share a special connection over that song and for that reason alone the other two will never come close.
Judged on a purely music perspective, Wonderwall is still the best song of the three. Stop Crying Your Heart Out is not far behind and, imo, never really got the attention it deserved.
As for The Roller? Great song, I enjoy listening to it very much as I'm sure plenty others will be... but as far as actually meaning something to someone... which is how you judge a song in my opinon, then it falls way, way back.
Sorry for my overuse of the italic function, i'm enjoying myself.

Although it fits so well with the melody and of course Liam sings it in a brilliant way. I think that what makes Wonderwall lyrics so special is the fact that Noel didn't write much about feelings. It's kind of unique in Oasis catalogue that kind of lyrics. And yeah, Wonderwall is the perfect song. Production is brilliant, everything is brilliant. It's an overrated tune by the musical world. But also is an underrated tune by us, the real fans, that unlike the rest of the listeners, know that Oasis are more than that. Forgetting the fact that everybody in the damn world knows it, and listening to it like you are the only one who knows it, makes it a true treasure. And makes it much better than TR and SYCHO which are great but not enough.

My point isn't about the literacy merit of the line... it's about the thought and the feeling behind it and the fact that nobody had said it before. "I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do, about you now." That line right there is real, it conveys true emotion in a simple way that millions can understand and is exactly why ridiculous amounts of people around the world love Oasis. Simple, but real.

I'm pretty much sick of the studio version of Wonderwall but Noel spiced it up a few years ago with his acoustic version with Gem on electric. Of course its a classic. Stop Crying Your Heart Out is another classic although not on the same level as Wonderwall. The Roller is a solid song that I've enjoyed over the last couple days but who knows how it'll hold up. I think The Roller is a different type of song though.

The Roller/Wonderwall comparison is outrageous! TR pisses on SCYHO though. The vocals on it are the worst vocals I've ever heard from him. Should've been a b-side

SCYHO always struck me as too generic to be anything special.

Wonderwall is a song which will last for decades. I know that for many of us it's overplayed, and it's quite boring to have generic people only know Oasis for it, but it's a piece of the history of music. SCYHO is a great ballad, I always thought that it paid the snob attitude Oasis got considered with post-2000, surely it got movies including it and sold well, but I thought it would have been stickier. TR is a decent song overall, not such a good first single IMHO, and, as many have said, it's really difficult to compare with the other two, but no matter what surely comes third.
