I have around 38 songs copy written at the moment. I'm sure many of them have chord structures close to others songs that I may have never even listened to before. Does this mean I ripped these songs off? Most songs have predictable chord structures. It's almost impossible to come up with something original at this point. All you can hope to do is put your own spin and feel into a melody that someone else most likely came up with long ago. Many people have been saying that "kill for a dream" sounds like Rock Star by Nickleback...Does anyone think that they intentional had that in thier head and stole it when it was written? I bet with very little research I can find where Rockstar was a "rip off" of another song....When Liam comes out with "Hey Dude" or "suzie in the sky with diamonds" i'll be worried!

I agree. People only write whatever they grew up listening to ultimately. Nothing has been original for the past 50 years of guitar bands! I understand the comparisons, but let's get off our "high horse" and stop belittling bands because they sound too much like another. Songs have a funny way of sounding like other songs, it happens, big deal.
Cheers to all those whose compose!

I agree with thewalrus25. Nickleback will never be ripped off intentionally by any band with a bit common sense. They're too shit!
