Doesn't matter what he said. It's still not true. It doesn't matter if an arrogant guy or a modest guy sang it, Don't Look Back In Anger is amazing. The attitude does not enhance it. In fact, it has nothing to do with it. It just serves to turn people off the band who otherwise might have given them a chance.

i couldn't disagree more. the songs were what made oasis work. fuck the attitude, the clothes, the interviews and everything else. they'd be nothing without the songs. This isn't only addressed to you, but to others who hold the same opinion - and should very well be a new thread, tbh.... "You have to have that attitude to play those songs, otherwise it just wouldn't have been believable. Y'know, I think one goes with the other." Gem circa 2004 Gem is spot on. oh shut up. without the songs, Noel and Liam would now be working menial jobs. at some point you're gonna have to start forming your own opinions, and stop living off other people's opinion.

I think the arguement here is that Oasis wouldn't be THE SAME without the attitude. Stop fucking whinging about whether you like it or not.

I got into Oasis because I liked their songs. In fact, before I became a fan I liked the songs I'd heard but I thought the Gallagher's were complete wankers and detested their attitude (although I respected their talents of course). I think the pair of them are great now, but attitude had absolutely nothing to do with me becoming an Oasis fan.
Too many bands focus on their image these days and then they delude themselves by thinking because they look great, they sound great. Like most high school rock bands.

Too many bands focus on their image these days and then they delude themselves by thinking because they look great, they sound great. Like most high school rock bands. Yes. But to Oasis it came naturally. They didn't force their image and thus didn't come across a fake or look like they were trying too hard. And of course you need the tunes, I'm not denying that. I think almost all of us became an Oasis fan because of the music. As a 10 year old, I couldn't relate to RNRS. Hell, I actually didn't like that track as a 10 year old. But as I've grown up, it's become one of my favorite tracks as I understood the meaning and significance along with others like Cigs and Alcohol. But I digress, somewhat. The attitude Oasis brought amplified those tunes to make them even more credible and better. One of many criticisms I have read about The Enemy is that they are complaining about every day life (in Away From Here), but they have no idea what the working lifestyle really is - considering their age and background at the time. Essentially, that song lacks credibility. Does that make the song inherently bad? Of course not. But it does make the band lack conviction. I say this phrase too much on here, and a lot of people don't like it, but whatever - Oasis transcended music (at least for a time). Without that attitude and the ability to relate their songs and personalities to their audience, they wouldn't have become the social phenomenon (another one of my trademark phrases) that they did.

Now I'm just confused. How are Rock 'n' Roll Star and Cigarettes & Alcohol songs you "didn't get"? I mean, it's not like Hallelujah or something, a song with deep lyrics that makes more sense once you hit a certain age. Rock 'n' Roll Star in particular is one of the easiest songs to understand ever.
Unless I've missed some revolutionary double meaning, it's just a song about being a big star in your head (essentially).

You really think a 10 year old is going to understand the concepts hidden within those lyrics? You really think the average 10 year old knows what a 'white line' is? RNRS is about being young, and wishing for a better life. Cigs and Alc is about 'having it' because nothing else is worth it - like getting a job. How can the average 10 year old relate to these concepts? Yes, the lyrics are simple and so are the meanings. But that's because we're older than 10!
