Phantom Planet gets crap for the theme song to the oc, but that song is pretty fantastic. As is the album it appeared on. I'd say they were one of the most underrated bands of last decade. albums the guest and their last (raise the dead) are great. So hard to hear bands with a real sense of melody. Rooney is good too.
and when it comes to mainstream, i think the killers are awesome. first album i don't like minus the singles. but their next 2 are so good.

Like fuck this was a bad year, it was an amazing year for music. Liam really knows nothing about modern music.

^ To be fair, neither does Noel. They both have admitted as much, especially Noel. I will never understand how a music fan will purposefully ignore anything that's not popular ("I don't care about what's not in the charts" or something to that effect)

Sure. Of course a lot depends on your taste, but here's a bunch of stuff you probably didn't hear (no need to include big releases in recommendations, in my opinion) The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang Farrah - Farrah The Posies - Blood/Candy Locksley - Be In Love The Young Veins - Take A Vacation! Rooney - Eureka Taylor Locke & The Roughs - Grain & Grape Taylor Locke & The Roughs - Marathon The New Pornographers - Together The 88 - The 88 Teenage Fanclub - Shadows All quality albums. You forgot The Hold Steady "Heaven Is Whenever"

Might be that there were some great rock albums in 2010. But none of them was really successfull. In the last years, there were always some good rock bands at the top of the charts (at least here in Germany), but in 2010 the charts and the radio were (and still are) full of shite music.

Good taste, man.

Everyone's opinions are greatly appreciated. I don't necessarily agree with Liam, or the state of the latest music charts. The topic always intrigues me, because there is no formula for predicting a music group that will take over the global scene. There are too many variables to take into account. Cheers!

Loved Day and Age, it's my favorite. Definitely confirmed me as a fan.
