Straight off Yahoo! music section this morning. . . . . . this has been a rotten year for rock. The year's best-selling rock album, Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns, ranks #34 for the year. This will be the lowest that the year's top rock album has appeared on a year-end list in the Nielsen/SoundScan era. The only other time there was no rock album in the year-end top 10 was in 2002, when the year's top rock album, Creed's Weathered, ranked #16 for the year.
Liam's recent NME comments about how the world is itching for a big rock act might be very well placed? This past year was shit for music in general and everything is cyclical.
How do you feel about BDI's chances versus everything else?

Depends on the pre-album single I think. If all goes well then nothing would be impossible since they've done it once before

BDI have no chance of making a long lasting impact in the US. Not with DGSS, that is.

The time is definitely right. But that's sheer coincidence. If this had been a great year for rock, would Liam have waited another year? Don't think so. Anyway, I'm desperate for some good music. Can barely listen to the radio these days.

Yes, if DGSS is indeed better than DM; which obviously won't be.

there's nothing in music that I get genuinely excited about
accept Liam and Noel, so maybe now is the right time for Beady Eye?
It Is for me!

It's obvious Liam doesn't give a shit about America, because he's totally ignored the bloody country. Eat your hamburgers and listen to proper, British music. The USA are perfect at making corny pop music; the UK, on the other hand, are true musicians - the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Small Faces, the Who, the Kinks, the Rolling Stones, Oasis, the Smiths, Stone Roses. If Liam wanted the album to do well in America, he would have got off his arse and went over to promote it.

Don't mean to get into a country to country war here beings that I've lived in both but the U.S. is responsible for rock n' roll (we do have Elvis and Buddy Holly) unfortunately for the U.S. you could claim that rock n' roll was born out of the blues which originated during slavery with slave songs being orally passed amongst the south.

US chart positions aside, the mention of Linkin Park and Creed gives me chills.

One band built their fan-base on gamers who sold their comic book collections to get tickets; the other was followed religiously by bald, meathead "dudes" who wasted their child support to go to concerts.

Rock is definately in the 'head stuck up it's own arse' mode in the UK at least at the moment: even recycled synthipop like OMD have been getting more mainstream airplay of late....rock WILL return, but whether BDI will be able to satisfy demand is still uncertain...but fingers crossed.

This year has been amazing for music. Not necessarily in the mainstream, but if you really only listen to stuff in the top 40, you're missing out on pretty much all the greatest music being created.

This year has been amazing for music. Any suggestions? Other than Exit Calm's debut and American Ghetto by Portugal. The Man most of what I heard was average at best.

Sure. Of course a lot depends on your taste, but here's a bunch of stuff you probably didn't hear (no need to include big releases in recommendations, in my opinion)
The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang Farrah - Farrah The Posies - Blood/Candy Locksley - Be In Love The Young Veins - Take A Vacation! Rooney - Eureka Taylor Locke & The Roughs - Grain & Grape Taylor Locke & The Roughs - Marathon The New Pornographers - Together The 88 - The 88 Teenage Fanclub - Shadows
All quality albums.

Liam is right in that music these days is shit. But Beady Eye will always be viewed as a past-it band with a past-it singer, minus the main songwriter. They'll always have that stigma and I can't see them really amounting to anything.
I'm not saying I agree with that, but thats how they'll be seen.
Edit - Linkin Park and Creed are absolutely shite though.

^ Mainstream music these days, not all music. I agree. It's just that mainstream music has shifted away from rock (n roll). I think there are more good musicians today than there were in the 60's, you just have to know where to look.

I think that the world is primed for a new rock act, but not BDI.
Rarely does the world turn to old hats for new music, and that's basically what Liam is even though he's only in his 30's. Music turns to new young bands for guidance. Before Oasis and Nirvana becamse big, people were not looking for the BeeGees to start a new rock movement, but a fresh new sound, like Nirvana or say Oasis. BDI has no chance.

^ True. BDI can certainly do well enough to make a living, but fresh faces go a long way in music.

They'll get by, but will never be huge. Not for a few years anyway. Theyre on before kasabian at isle of wight, which tells you something
