My friends Pint Shot Riot had a one hour interview on Steve Lillywhite's radio show in NYC today. I asked them to ask Steve on air what "Different Gear, Still Speeding" sounds like and he said it sounded 'different' and when pressed to elaborate he mentioned that some tunes on it sounded like 'The La's'

The La's were a great band, would be cool if that turns out to be true

I rate Steve Lillywhite as a producer. He has produced some of U2's greatest ever albums.

Any producer who has worked with U2, The La's, The Smiths, The Rolling Stones and now Beady Eye has to be respected.
I am looking forward to the album because he has worked on it too, I think he'll just offer another dimension to the sound.

Might "sound" a bit like The La's but if it's anything as good as The La's i'll eat my own hat. Mavers was up there with Lennon in my humble, the man was/is a genius. Liam (or anyone else in the band for that matter) are nowehere near that level of prowess.

Agreed Mavers is a genius. I love the outright La's influence though- if it's true.

Is it just me or do these comments from Steve Lillywhite seem very unenthusiastic?

The La's are great - not as great as Oasis in my humble opinion but great as well. I'd rather have a good, fresh La's-style album than a mediocre Oasis rip-off any day. Good news.

Cast were far superior to the La's John Power had the talent in that band.

For years I wanted Lillywhite as Oasis producer.

I dont think it has to do with him not wanting to spill the beans on anything. I think that Lillywhite might just be say like an Andy. It might just be he doesnt get overly excited about anything. I think that's what makes him a good producer. He seems to have a level headed attitude about everything. I think it has more to do with his personality, than him not wating to reveal anything. tbh

I don't know anything about how Lillywhite usually is, but either way it's probably smart he's not talking it up too much. I'm sure there will be enough people out there who hype expectations to the point they will never be reached without his help.

As I said the guys a pro, whether he rates beady eye or not he'll be more than happy to work with then again coz it's pay day. Coming on blathering on about the record before it's been released and possibly revealing something in the process that BE didn't want known yet could only hinder that
Plus he's not some oasis / be fan boi, he's got other projects on the go and plenty of other stuff to talk about
