Different Gear, Still Speeding. Maybe its a reference to drugs, after all it is Liam Gallagher we are talking about.
Different Gear - reference to Beady Eye being his new drug instead of Oasis.
Still Speeding - loving it just as much as he did in Oasis.
Long shot but just thought I'd throw in my opinion.

My interpretation is that he's refering to Noel and the Oasis break up. It's so blunt. Different Gear suggests a change, and that change is his new band, Beady Eye. Still Speeding, he most likely means still passionate and creating top music, ie still "mad fer it."
Basically, it's more of a message to Noel - you can leave but don't expect me to give up what I enjoy doing. Simples.

i don't see that at all. Even your explanation has nothing that ties it to drugs.

i don't see that at all. Even your explanation has nothing that ties it to drugs. Gear is a euphemism for drugs so it makes basic sense. Doubt it is the true intent of the title but the basis is there for the interpretation

He's clearly talking about it being a new band but carrying on the same. When I opened this thread I believed it was going to refer to the possible double meaning as obviously "gear" is a slang term for drugs and then "speeding/speed"

Sorry for diggin up that old thread but these two last posts above are brilliant. Brian Cannons idea for MG cover was cool as fuck if it's true. I've never heard that, i can visualise this image in my head in Brian's style and it could have been even cooler than the original cover. And the "knife in a pound of butter" as the album art for definitely maybe is just 100 % Liam hahaha

It's got nothing to do with that, he infact tweeted 'different gear, still speeding' when he was still in oasis. Chances are he liked the phrase and was waiting for an excuse to use it, for a song or album, and the situation just happened to fit the name. Who knows, if oasis made another album it could have been called Different Gear, Still Speeding lol
