www.nme.com/news/manic-street-preachers/54058Manic Street Preachers are booked to perform on Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday (December 5).
The band sent a message from their official Twitter.com page, Twitter.com/manicspostcards about the appearance, and a BBC spokesperson confirmed they would be playing.
"Unbelievable – we have got Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday", they wrote. "Mass communication indeed. What to wear?"
The show airs at 7:30pm (GMT) on BBC1. Finally get to see these guys in a few weeks live and they go and do something silly like this!! What Next??? 'Beady Eye to play live on Xfactor' ??

this is a very msp move.
well, it will be, if they do the right thing and play faster or ifwhiteamerica... or you love us... basically anything BUT their new single.
BUT after reading the guardian's article, many of the commentors make a good point that the manics have been on plenty of sat morning kid shows back in their heyday.
and, lest we forget, they opened for bon jovi. this is a step up.

Wouldn't be the first time the Manics were on a questionable TV show, this is their so called "last shot at mass communication" and they're sticking to that.

I think fans of their older stuff and apparently more principled, politically motivated era (for the record im not a fan) may well disagree. Isnt the 'last shot at mass communication' really the 'last chance to sell some records'. i think this hurts their legacy. Mind you im anti Dylan doing the ipod (simply no need) and Jack White writing the coke song. Im anti artists selling out for big business especially those that already have plenty in the bank.

I suppose so, but I'd imagine those fans remember the "Everything Must Go" days when Wire abandoned the dresses and they were playing the schmaltzy "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" to Cardiff Millennium Stadium. I feel that the Manic always try to defy their fans expectations; this is just another example of that.

Thats a nice set-up but surely 'defy their fans expectations' really means 'selling out the highest bidder?'. Lets be honest thats whats it about, and i find it insulting they would dress it up otherwise. BTW if you like the manics thats cool, taste is taste but , personally i think theyve sold out.

Fair enough, I'm sure people have been saying that about them since either A: they formed or B: they joined the hit parade with Everything Must Go. Surely appearing on a children's show is the pinnacle of the underground.

you could argue that making a second album was selling out

Indeed, compromised their original views by making that one. One album, 20 million copies? BAH. Thank goodness they trudged on though, brilliant band with and without Richey.
