Be Here now is one of their worst songs. its subjective of course. but it was hands down the worst opener to a gig they ever had. and probably the worst song on be here now. Columbia is a building block for Oasis's Career. Its a true classic. fully disagree

yup, we couldn't disagree more... lol i find Columbia "cool" for like the first minute, then it gets REALLY boring. Be Here Now has attitude, Liam sang the shit out of that song on the 97 GMEX gig. i really like the song(obviously), i don't hate Columbia, it's just too boring for me, that's why everytime it comes on, i press the skip button before it ends.

I like both songs quite a bit, Columbias up there in my top 3 songs though. Love the way it kinda 'drones' on and on, a classic.
Be Here Now was one of the few songs i really liked from that album, beginning reminds me of an old Bon Jovi song (forget the name).
But to me Columbias the classic

Be Here Now is a good song, love the whistling, but not on par with Columbia.

lgfaver- Be Here Now is without doubt the worst Oasis song of all time and makes Bring The Light (of which I like anyway) seem like Live Forever! How it made the cut over Stay Young is one of life's big mysteries. Not an entirely bad tune lies underneath but it's denied all chance of being salvaged from the wreckage by Noel's worst ever lyrics (Little James is Shakespeare in comparison) and represents just how bad the over-indulgence got during that period. They really thought they could get away with anything. The constant Beatles references completely undermine the album way before you get to it but Noel will never write a more cringe inducing line than "sing a song for me, one from Let it Be". Awful. But hey, if you prefer that to Columbia that's your choice.
Rant over...

I was going to make the Columbia comparison the other week, but didn't in fear of (even more) ridicule.
While I don't find BTL nearly as annoyingly repetitive as the ending of BWTB (seriously, come on now), Columbia is miles better. Columbia has an attitude about it. And the Yeah Yeah Yeahs by Noel are just awesome.
As for the BHN vs. C. debate: Columbia beats the BHN song any day. Columbia is one of my favorites off of DM, Be Here Now is a cheap, but decent, rip off of Columbia.

I heard that the working title for Soldier On was Come On and the last gazillion Soldier Ons in the outro were originally a fantizillion Come On Come Ons. Thank God he changed it.

Be here now is great. It's nowhere near my favourite of the album, but it's MUCH better than Bring the light, seriously. And comparing Columbia to Bring The Light is almost a scandal

Am sorry, but to me, Be Here Now (the song) is AWFUL! The lyrics (as mentioned) are too cringworthy. To me, the fact it is called Be Here Now, to underlines the actual album and everything that is wrong with it. The music lasts too long, too many guitars. On the other side, live it was (from the bootlegs I have) a certain arrogence to it. A thumbing bang throughout.
Saying that, Columbia is 100% miles better than it to me. I also prefere Bring The Light to it. The only reason I play it all the way through is because I rarely ever listen to it.

Be Here Now is one of my favorites from that album and yes i like it better than Columbia. I can understand that you rather listen to Columbia but to say that BHN is a worse song than Bring The Light is blasphemy and im not kidding. BTL(when compared to BHN) sounds like a fucking piece of shit. Hey, i don't hate the song but i'm just saying...

No, I can deny it rocks. Infact, I thought I did! Look, it's not that I completely despise it. Oasis are my favourite band and I like everything of theirs to some extent. I can quite happily listen to it, even finding myself singing along because, y'know, it's Oasis. Be Here Now though is still the one Oasis song that I do come close to hating and not just because of the god awful lyrics. I would never let weak lyrics get in the way of a great tune but BHN certainly isn't a great tune and the lyrics are far from just 'weak'. I personally love Noel's words and writing style, even the nonsensical stuff but when I listen to BHN I can't help feeling that he was really phoning it in with that one. With a lot of songs on the album Noel had the attitude "Can't think of the next line, I'll just put a Beatles title or something in there". After Knebworth who was gonna tell him no? It reached it's lowest point with that song and the terrible lyrics far outweigh any semblance of a good tune it might have (which I'm not convinced it does). It's not a song I could defend to Oasis haters. And to say it is better than Bring The Light (opinion or not) just goes to show how narrow minded some Oasis fans can be. Despite the retro feel there is more creativity and ideas in BTL than a thousand BHNs. It's not Oasis and there's no reason why you should automatically like it but if Noel had written it, people would be much quicker to give it a chance.

But that flute solo ( or whatever instrument it is) in Be Here Now is just horrible. And that melody that mimics it is just the worst Oasis moment for me. im not trying to drag your love for it thrru the mad. id rather like an oasis song than hate it. But that song has no redeeming quality. It drags on. has that horrible flute opening. probably the worst oasis lyrics. And like i said the most aticlimatic opener they ever had. it was so flat live and just bad all around!

ok i respect everyone's opinion as well but i disagree with you dude, it's all good tho, that's what this forum is for, right? i just gotta say, you got me all wrong. You think i don't like BTL because Liam wrote the song... you're mistaken my friend because if you go back and check out my posts pre-release of BTL you'd see i was one of the few trying to convince people(on here) to give BDI a chance, plus i really like songs Liam has composed. For example, The Meaning of Soul, everyone thinks it is shit but i like it, same with BWTB, not to mention GGTIA, BOADC, and IOT and Songbird of course. I don't like BTL because it's just not the type of music i like, that's all.

Be Here Now might not be one of the best Oasis songs, but calling it worse than BTL is not fair. It has the good, classical Oasis sound, the lyrics are stupid but not bad - I prefer ridiculous lyrics like those on BHN to the simple shit of BTL any day. The melody is nice, catchier than most of Liam's songs, the whistling part is very well done imo. I respect everybody's opinions and I can see why people would hate Be Here Now. But don't state it like it's a fact. BTW, I don't see why people love Columbia that much. If I had to choose one song to cut from DM and replace it with Listen Up, it probably would be Columbia or UITS. But apparently that's just me
