I don't think anyone will be surprised when I admit that I love the song.

I'm glad that this is not an Oasis-ish song, they are trying news stuffs and that's great.

I think you just have to look at some of Noel's lines to realise that "Taking you drinking" isn't such a bad line, he's writing about what he want to do - just as Noel did when they started out.

^^Its really not one line. Like I said earlier Noel has had some pretty bad lines, but the ones to BTL are overly simplistic. You can say all you want that the lines are meant to be simple, but really alot the rhymes that he's using are throw aay rhymes. In Noel's songs it happens once or twice with the throw away rhymes, but BTL is built on them. There not one line where I think that that wasnt just a rhyme just to rhyme.
That's really the problem with BTL. I think Oasis fans are use to pretty shit writing, but usually there's at least a couple of couplets that you really like. What are those couplets for the BTL. Its really just one line "baby come one" which really is there just to be there. Good example is Songbird. Songbird's lyrics are simple too, but there is a purpose and an intent to those lyrics and rhymes.
Are retro 50's songs suppose to have an intent, I dont know, but I do know that if you talk to anyone who writes lyrics for a living, they'll tell you that you cant make an entire song with throw away rhymes and thats what BTL is. Its hard not to admit that whether you like the song or dont. And I actually think that song is decent and sometimes good.

Honestly I don't know why they don't ask someone to collaborate with them on lyrics. Don't give them a writing credit, we'd never know, and it would improve things so much.
Movie writers do it, novel writers do it, I think the producer needs to step in more and help with the lyrics.

I don't mind "taking you drinking"
I mind: "Your coming up, i'm coming down." Actually those words aren't so terrible but when they interact with the simple rhythm and delivery it all just sounds so basic.

At the end of the day its a free download. Lets wait for the album to come out, for all we know BTL might be the 'weaker' track on the album (hence the free giveaway).
On every Oasis album theres a song or two i cant stand. There should be 11 or 12 songs on the album for us to analyse every split second of it ! Lets just wait till the album comes out, personaly i'm not super impressed with this first song but you'll never please everyone. I think Dig out your Soul's a great album, others here seem to hate it.
But i do wish the album would come out soon

People don't like it because they can't get over it not sounding like Oasis. Good thread.

I don't like BTL and I didn't expect that BE sounds like Oasis. I think that most of us don't listen only Oasis so stop with this stupid argument!

The Shock of the Lightning has a similar lyric, I think it goes "Out of control, but I'm tied up tonight/ come in, come out tonight" Yeah the problem with comparing TSOTL to BTL is that the TSOTL has pretty strong lyrics overrall, that Come On Come On in BTL are not the only weak lyrics. All the rhymes in BTL are throw away rhymes. There's not one rhyme that you can argue differently.

No I'm not joking. I don't think it sounds anything like Oasis. I agree. I wouldn't put what we've heard to date in the Oasis sound category. Oasis ended up sounding like Oasis. But Liam writes differently anyway and going from past interviews (especially the recording of the last 2 Oasis albums), Noel had objections to Liam's ideas in the studio - like Liam wanting girls singing on one of his songs on DBTT? I'm definitely expecting to hear a bigger range of sounds and influences, and going by BTL we're going to get that!
