Beady Eye have never been as dated or as uncool as they are now, what with Liam's resurgence. He needed that refresh, get rid of the shackles of Oasis mk II and 60's retroness.
BE didn't quite work for me (terrible vocals for one thing!) - but I do admire they tried to mix it up a bit - Andy seems like a driving force on that front, and Dave Sitek obviously.
Songs that are still pretty good:
Flick of the Finger (hate that drum sound though! and could use another section)
Soul Love (one of Liam's best)
Off at the next Exit (did Gem really write this?!)
Start Anew (again, could use another section)
The Roller (probably should have gone onto Heathen Chemistry - it's better than Hung in a Bad Place)
Wigwam
Honourable mentions to:
Kill for a Dream (sounds very DBTT-era Oasis, vocal isn't very strong, arrangement's poor - good melody though, if a bit cheesy)
Soon Come Tomorrow (the vocal on this is HORRIBLE)
The instrumental second half of Don't Brother me (really nice, shame about the actual song)
The absolute worst:
Face the Crowd (who wrote this?! Tuneless, generic, no, no, no!)
Ballroom Figured (one of the most unremarkable songs I've ever heard)
Wind Up Dream (Gem-rock)
Three Ring Circus (Gem-rock)
