Weller is the best, on all counts.

I really love Ian Brown, he's genius and I respect their music - Brown's and Weller's.
BUT I've been a huge Weller fan for years and years. He's my life time hero next to my forever guitar hero.
I don't vote, I just can't and I don't want to vote like "who was/is better?" cos they're both great, great musicians.

I love Ian Brown too, but he has never been as good a musician as Weller thats not opinion either but fact. People's opinion on their songwriting is of course subjective, although I'd still be surprised if many picked Brown. Weller is up their with the best songwriters of the last 30 years.

brown wrote resurrection which is my fave song ever also adored and this is the one. f.e.a.r cemented his place as one of the all-time greatest lyricists as well, legend. i'd vote him every time.

Well I think Squire can take the credit for writing the music. f.e.a.r Is a amazing tune, but it didn't cement anything.

paranoid, you're very right saying that Brown can't sing. Very true, I've seen him twice and I'm a huge fan of him, but I must admit that he can't sing at all, BUT it doesn't matter really when you see him on the stage.
To me the reason made/makes them legend is, of course their attitude and their work, but they both keep moving, never look back and never lay down on their ego and the most important IMO is that they'll never ever reunion The Jam and The Roses.

What a pointless poll by the author.
They are both legends in there own right.
If I had to choose who I couldnt live without though... Weller.

Massive respect to Ian Brown, I really dig some of his solo stuff, this is one of my fav tunes of all time...
As for Weller tho, absolutely love a lot of his solo stuff (all except the last 2 albums sadly)...
