We've had threads on Jazz, electronica and hip hop/RnB so I think it's time for one of the biggest music genres out there to be discussed: Hard Rock and Heavy Metal (Classic rock in general I suppose)
Is there anybody out there other than me and the Aussie girl that listens to something heavier than Bring it on Down?
I'm pretty big into Gun's 'n' Roses, Black Sabbath AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. That kind of stuff I'll listen to some really heavy stuff like Sepeltura and Pantera if I'm in the mood.
I feel that this is a genre that is widely ignored on here for some reason. Probably because Noel and Liam don't mention it that often (or ever)

We're not just about AC/DC!

Some Zeppelin, sure. Pretty much anything Josh Homme is in.

Some GNR is okay. A song or two by Zepplin. But as a general rule, I steer clear of this stuff because it is ALL over blown fluff.

I like hard rock, but hate heavy metal. It's such a corny genre. Hard rock artists that I love include The Who, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Faces, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, AC/DC (especially their early work).

I agree, a lot of it IS over blown but there are some fantastic albums out there. I think the bad side of metal gets a bit more coverage than most genres which is unfortunate as most genres have their fluf. Reading Slash's book at the moment (and listening to loads of Guns) and most of the metal that was around while he was young was absolute shit. You just gotta pick the best from the bunch. Zeppelin 4 was what converted me to this genre B-)

Yeah I was into G'N'R in a big way back in the day, also a bit of Metallica, AC/DC, Soundgarden & Iron Maiden.
Planet Rock is 1 of my favourite radio stations to be fair ;-)

Would Bowie be considered hard rock for any album other then The Man Who Sold The World? I dig all of those bands, except AC/DC.

I don't think Bowie and the Faces could be hard rock but I do like them

The Who are maximum R&B man!!
I think there is a fine line between "Classic Rock" & " Hard Rock/Metal" IN THIS THREAD! lol

Can't stand the men with long hair. No offence Petrucci and Toon. I respect anyone's music taste. It's just not mine, that's all. Give me the darkness of The Twilight Sad anyday. and christian, please please please never call Bowie "hard rock".

My mate’s band. He’s the guitarist. No scissors here. None of them are allowed near sharp objects.

I can't stand metal most of the time to be honest. Probably the heaviest stuff I listen to is Deftones. You should definitely give it a listen if you haven't already. Their last two albums are really great, I think. They've developed from their early rap rock days to an experimental and exciting band, if you ask me.

Can't stand metal nowadays. Bands like Black Sabbath are great but these days it's mostly shite. I can't stand those "tilulilu" guitar solos.

Well, what's heavy?
I love early Kinks and the Who, which are some of the pioneers of hard rock. Cream, Black Sabbath, some Guns 'n Roses. Can't really stand AC/DC. Can't stand the vocals.
LOVED Metallica. Master Of Puppets was always one of my favourite albums. I'm a bit less into them now.
As a teenager (to be more precise: an emo kid, complete with hideous fringe and black panda eyes) I was also really into Rise Against, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Bullet For My Valentine and bands like that. As I grew out of my emo phase, I also grew out of that kind of music. Listened to some of it again recently and I was a bit like "uhh..."
It's funny how your taste in music shapes itself and changes as you get older.

There are great metal bands nowdays, although not in vast amounts like in the past. You should check Sabaton, Sonata Arctica (although their first albums were far better), Hammerfall, Dragonforce, Alestorm, Blind Guardian. These are all bands with melodic vocals and guitars with no or minimal growl.

Haven't heard many of their songs, i'm afraid. I'll check them out.
