Listened to a lot of David Holmes this week, looking forward to his new album Jim. Then I tortured myself on a DIV & AA binge. Then a fair bit of jazz. Nice.

Ian Brown - Golden Greats....this album just still does it for me...Gettin' High is a great opener! Reminds me of fun days and nights living in Tooting, London when it first dropped

Reminds me of fun days and nights living in Tooting, London when it first dropped I saw him at Leeds 2000 touring that album, same year Oasis headlined. Back when he had a band 😅 Great album, great weekend. 🐬

Fela Kuti week. GOAT. How should someone totally unfamiliar with Fela Kuti, except for the name and a bullet point version of his life story, start with his discography?

Fela Kuti week. GOAT. How should someone totally unfamiliar with Fela Kuti, except for the name and a bullet point version of his life story, start with his discography? Start with a best of such as The Best of The Black President then take it from there. His music doesn’t follow western conventions. Most “songs” are well over 15 minutes, with long instrumentals before the vocals come in (in pidgin English, so they could be understood by more people across Africa). The Best Ofs contain shorter edits so are easier to get into. Also, he didn’t release albums in the traditional sense. They were often just two long tracks, one on each side of a vinyl. So they’re almost like EPs rather than albums and there’re absolutely loads of them! So again, a best of is definitely the easiest place to start. Big tunes to start with: - Zombie - Roforofo Fight - Gentleman - Lady - International Thief Thief Enjoy!

I hadn’t seen those official YouTube videos with background info before, that’s really cool I need to check more out. I have his autobiography on my to read pile, but the pile grows faster than I get through it! 📚

The first of a 1-2 punch, the second being Magma. And yes, they take their name from Godzilla, in fact they used it until legality stopped them.

Listening a lot to Travis (everything at once, 10 songs), the Smiths (rank, hatful) and Manics (send away the tigers, ultra vivid lament).

Nirvana - In Utero 2023 (30th Anniversary) Remaster.
Such a powerful album. Everything is mixed perfectly. The guitars, drums, bass, vocals...
Most underrated song has to be Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, the perfect song that wraps the In-Utero sound into one song.
Then to finish the album with All Apologies. God, this album is good.

I had a listen to André 3000‘s new flute album.
Oh Andre, you’ve really committed commercial suicide if I’m one of the first 1000 people to listen to your tracks!
It’s quite ambient in parts. I’ve added a few tracks to my bath playlist.

I've been in a bit of a British Psychedelia dive these past few days to be ready for my radio show un thursday, and found myself really enjoying the Incredible Strings Band.
EDIT: if you lads have suggestions for tunes from '67 to '69 that can be filed under the British Psychedelic category, please suggest them and I'll include them in my playlist!
