I think that Weezer is a band that is very similar to Oasis:
1. They both had amazing debuts (Def. Maybe & The Blue Album) 2. They Both Released Albums that are actually amazing, but were criticized heavily upon release. (Be Here Now & Pinkerton) 3. They both released their debut in 1994. 4. Although they both have lost a bit of their luster, they continue to put out albums that are pretty solid. (DBTT, DOYS, and The Red Album/Raditude) ----- Those are some main points, im sure i can think of more...
also, Weezer covered 'Morning Glory' on their 2008 tour!!

WTF Weezer Snuggie! I just saw an infomercial ad for those the other day, they look like a cross between an old lady's housecoat and harry potter robe.

I can see how you got this. I mean Rivers and Noel are both top tier student rock/pop songwriters. I say student because both have a vast amount of knowledge of rock/pop songwriting and use to benefit their songs. Also earlier in their careers both usually put some corky tunes on their albums, although Weezer still does this.
That said most of their music is vastly different. Oasis have more psychedelic influences and Weezer's influences are strictly pop/rock with some touches of hip hop (currently). Oasis's legacy is far greater but Weezer has a damn good legacy. Pinkerton is one of the biggest underground hits and is a masterpiece. Where as Morning Glory and Definitely Maybe were commercial successes although Oasis was an Independent band.
I agree that both band though past their prime still release quality albums and that both artists only have album that has disappointed me (Make Believe and Heathen Chemistry).
The thing I love about Weezer is that they just don't give a shit about how stupid something is and that Rivers is still basically a teenager though he is nearly 40 which may or may not be a good thing haha.

I dont care what anybody thinks about weezer but i really like them.
Their music is good, and so what if they are a bit cheezy, not everyone has to be dicks like liam and noel ( even tho i love them about that ) to be likeable. I think they're funny and i like them.
The Blue Album and Pinkerton are both amazing albums. The green album and Maladroit are decent and Make believe is like the HC of Weezer. Their two new ones are likeable though The red album is better than Raditude.

I definitely like Weezer a lot. When I saw them live in their last tour and they did the Morning Glory cover, that was great. They are from that same era as Oasis...alternative rock artists who broke open the gates on the scene with a loud sound and catchy hooks. And as someone mentioned, Rivers and Noel are both students of pop songwriting history and very aware of how to craft good music out of having good infliuences.

Most of the people from England who haven't been exposed to much Weezer are just coming off as, "AW BOLLOCKS! OASIS IS DA FOOKIN ONLY BAND IN DA WURLD!"
Weezer is more popular in America than Oasis. Personally, I don't like the vast majority of Weezer's music, but they have put out some great stuff here and there.
The only thing that really hangs me up about Weezer is how they often come off as a band who don't take themselves seriously. They produce a lot of quirky, weird music that kind of dampens the good stuff.

great picture. I'm pretty sure Weezer is Liam's favorite band. Rivers posted a blog about their meeting and said that Liam loves them. Good stuff.

Hahah... seriously??? Interesting thread. I do enjoy Weezer.... but I doubt that they have all that much in common with Oasis aside from that which every popular band shares (a landmark album, an album that was overly criticised, some weaker releases of late)

I would have loved to see Oasis make one album like 'Everything Will Be Right In The End'. It has such a positive, powerfull, vital vibe, it reminds me of how good Oasis could be if they'd ever release a comeback album and explore they're roots. Come on Noel, back to the shack, to the Gibson with the Union Jack! www.vevo.com/watch/weezer/Cleopatra-%28Audio%29/USUV71401974
