Dig Out Your Soul could have been a contender! It has been said so many times over the last three years but the first half of the album is absolutely blinding. The song writing and production are excellent. Liam sounds great, as does Noel. It is just a crime the second half of the album after Falling Down is a mess. Songs like AGNOM and TNOR should never have been on the final tracklisting. GOYHH too. I would have much preferred Record Machine, Stop The Clocks, Boy With The Blues and Come On It's Alright to be on the album. I realize nobody has heard the last track but it has to be better than the other songs selected if Noel thought it would have been the first single. Oh well. the second half is so bad, it's a real shame. DBTT is so good because everyones contribution was great, but DOYS suffers from the fact that andy and gem wrote songs for it

Fortunately for Noel its mostly his tunes!

Dig Out Your Soul without a doubt. What's everyone's trouble with DOYS? The second half is a disaster, but the first half is still brilliant, despite the fact that it doesn't sound like typical Oasis. Changing the order of the songs could have saved the album?

the best song on DOYS is not as strong as the best on DBTT. The Worst song on DBTT isn't as bad as the worst on DOYS. And overall, there are no stinkers on DBTT. Case solved. DBTT >> DOYS and it's not even remotely close. /thread

Changing the order of the songs could have saved the album? What about this? 01. Bag It Up 02. Aint got nothing03. Waiting for The rapture 04. The shock of the Lightning 05. I'm Outta time 06. High horse lady 07. Falling down 08. To be where there's life 09. The nature of reality 10. The Turning11. soldier On IMO, it would improve the second half a lot.

But then the outro of BIU wouldn't have another great song next. If you changed AGN and Lightning that would be my ideal, but im not Noel or any oasis related.

I like the order of DOYS. I don't like even seeing TNOR there, let alone hearing it, though.
Worst. Oasis. Song. Ever.

TBWTL and SO are very underrated and GOOHHL is quit good. A million times that, DOYS had the potential to be a fantastic album, the only track I dislike is AGN, it's like TMOS... but AGN is better a little bit. And I like TNOR. Changing the order of the tracks would have saved the album, the one you suggest might work. I like DBTT at first few listens, but it didn't hold its appeal to me very long. On the contrary, DOYS grows after each listen. I haven't listened to DBTT for ages until yesterday, and I was surprised that even after several months I still don't find it fresh at all... it's all about personal taste, I suppose. The tracks I like on DBTT are TUTS, TIOBI, and LTBL(I like Lyla a little, not much), other than that... none.

TBWTL, TNOR, and SO are all piss takes for sure. If these songs were around in the 90's they would have been shelved without hesitation, but Noel changed his philosophy over the years to allow others to pollute his albums. Rock n Roll can NOT be democratic, or else you end up with post-2000 Oasis instead of 90's Oasis.
DBTT is solid imo. It might be a bit too low-key, slow at times, but the album as a whole is infinitely better than DOYS. I rarely skip any track while listening to DBTT, but I frequently stop listening to DOYS when FD finishes.
I like both albums well enough to still listen to them regularly, but DBTT is simply a more enjoyable listen than DOYS.
However, The Turning might be my favorite song off the two albums.

In a perfect world, Dig Out Your Soul would have looked like this: 1. Bag It Up 2. The Turning 3. Waiting For The Rapture 4. The Shock Of The Lightening 5. I'm Outta Time 6. (I Wanna Live In A Dream) In My Record Machine 7. Falling Down 8. Come On It's Alright 9. Boy With The Blues 10. Stop The Clocks I still believe the first 5 songs revival anything Oasis has released since Be Here Now. They opened DOYS with guns blazing. Sadly they ran out of bullets.

the problem with DOYS is there are too many shit songs. GOYHHL is still in my mind the worst thing Oasis ever released, add to that the mess that is AGN and TNOR and you have a pretty pedestrian album, no matter how good TSOTL, IOT and WFTR are-- and they're pretty damn good.

I'm always suspect of proposed tracklistings that contain songs that we haven't hear a lick of. It's like the constant calling for Show Me Your Love based of 15 seconds of cut together footage from a doco. I understand the rest...but Come On It's Alright? How do you it's any good or would fit the flow @ all. We don't even HAVE 15 seconds of that, do we?

^Good sig but too big. ;D I personally won't take HHL as a song, it's more like a bridge (if lack a better word) between FD, but too long. TBWTL/TNOR isn't that bad, it has a great vibe, guess I'm in minority here. The only bad track on DOYS is AGN, and it's still better than TMOS!

Noel mentioned during promo interviews that songs like GOYHH and AGN weren't even supposed to be on the album and how he originally intended Come On It's Alright and Record Machine to be on the album. We all know Liam fucked off to the UK to get married and proper vocals were never done. Yes nobody has heard the one song but Noel did say he wanted it as the lead single before writing shock of the lightening so I can't imagine it being terrible. In terms of "not fitting the flow" of the album. Let me ask you his....what flow? The album has a sharp drop off in the second half with a handful of dud tracks stinking up the joint. Those songs ruined the flow if you ask me. DOYS went from a potentially great album to an average one. I'll take the better composed songs over album flow 99% of the time.

it's strange, in my opinion 'to be where there's life' was one of the highlights of the live setlist during the doys tour.... but on the album, it's slow, flat, dull and two-dimensional. i like dave sardy's work for the most part but i hate what he did with that track, it could have been so much more.

Do you know something change the song and it sums up my feelings for Turn Up the Sun. The best version of it is the one that has the acoustic guitar intro(is my ringtone).

I agree, Live, the song is pretty damn good. However the album version is just downright boring, no other way to put it.

I think that TBWTL was done in that way with a purpose, to be a psychedelic surreal song without guitars, kind of like an upbeat version of The Beatles Within You Without You. The live versions with the guitars has more punch, which the album version lacks, but stills a good tune.

Sadly, though, the experiment somewhat failed. TBWTL should have been recorded in the same way they did it live. Live it is a very very good song. The studio version is average -- it needs to be beefed up with guitars, etc.
