Yet another one, this time in the Belgian league. The tackle is about 25 seconds in, and the slow motion replay is at about 1:30. Be warned, though - it's pretty gruesome. Anderlecht defender Marcin Wasilewski is facing at least 12 months on the sidelines after he suffered a horrific leg injury against Standard Liege yesterday. An incident in the 24th minute of the 1-1 Jupiler League draw saw the 29-year-old's lower leg broken after a challenge by Standard's Axel Witsel, who was subsequently sent off. The Belgian club confirmed Wasilewski underwent temporary surgery last night on "multiple open fractures of the calf and tibia" and faces a further operation later this week. www.fifa.com/worldfootball/clubfootball/news/newsid=1096782.htmlI really think it's time FIFA made an example of someone. Where there's doubt over the intent, perhaps you could excuse some degree of leniency, but not many observers would deny that Witsel intended to hurt his opponent. I would suggest that FIFA ban the offending player immediately, and indefinitely: as far as I'm concerned, he should sit on the sidelines for as long as his victim is forced to, whether that be a year or a lifetime. What disgusts me is that players continue to take such disregard for the safety of their opponents. We've all seen the consequences; we all know what horrendous damage a player can do to another, should they so choose. So why the fuck do they continue to do it?

He has been suspended for 10 Belgian League matches and 4 European matches, not enough in my opinion

Did no one trot out the old "He's not that kind of player" bullshit? I believe that one of the men responsible for determining his punishment stated that it should be 'acceptable' on the grounds that he hadn't committed any serious offences in the past.

He should be banned until that other fella plays again in my opinion. There had been previous between the two in a game last season. He knew what he was doin'.
