They're early stuff is almost incomparable - both good in their own ways. That's why I hope you read the follow up question - which band has been the best in recent years - I guess mainly since 2000 or at least since mid-2000s if we're pushing it?
Either way, Weezer deserves the acclaims more, so. Both have gone downhill since the 90s, no doubt, but Green Day? Fuck off.
American Idiot - bar Holiday, or whatever, and their new album all sucks.
Weezer? Green Album is solid (it's gotten great reviews but since I was in Middle School and since Middle School is the most awkward for all of us, it sure as hell is miss and hit for me for that reason), Meladorit has some good singles - similar to Oasis' HC imo, but their Beverly Hills album is horrible - the Red Album is decent, mind.
As for Green Day - the were awesome in the 90s but fucked up since American Idiot and their latest is even worse. Grow up, lads.
These bands are so similar in so many aspects. Amazing in the 90s, weakened in the'00s, same musical style, etc.
So I think it's a far comparison.
But Green Day has really gone down hill. They are truly a pre-teen band now, and have been since 2005's (?) American Idiot.
It's harder to classify Weezer, but I think that helps them, mind.
Weezer, FTW....but both have "lost their cool" - but Weezer are still in touch with themsevles. Green Day are sell outs.
It's so hard to make political albums - you're going to automatically alienate 50% of the population bc of your stance, and if you fail to communicate properly, you're going to eliminate even more. If you get it right, you'll be popular like The Clash, but Green Day fucked up so much it's unbelievable and that gives this poll to Weezer automatically, no question in my mind.

Weezer easily. I've never been a fan of Green Day even in their supposed "hey day". Rivers is just one of the masters of power pop song writing. Their debut is one of the best. Pinkerton is one of the most personal albums and emotional albums around. The Green Album is alright I mainly just like the singles off that one. Maladroit is probably my favorite. It gets a bit of hate from the press but as an album its brilliant. Its 2-3 min pop power with some rocking riffs. Make Believe can be a struggle to listen to bar a few songs. The Red Album it seems they've got back on their feet.
Weezer is a great band and funnily enough love Oasis.

I don't like either. But Green Day made Warning, and that's the best album out of both of em. So, Green Day.

Clearly Weezer.
I know I'm right but having agreed with L4E makes me question that.

I think that Green Day are atrociously annoying. Cannot stand them. However, I think that Weezer are brilliant and have always worked at making interesting and new music. I respect that a lot about them even if I don't own any of their records.....
