John, definitely. Plastic Ono Band and Imagine albums are classic. George is definitely second though.

Haven't checked out George's solo stuff though I've been meaning to for the longest time. Same with Ringo, though I haven't heard glowing stuff about his solo stuff compared to the other 3. For now, I'll go with Lennon cos his work I'm most familiar with.

TBH, McCartney and Lennon's best solo work is hard to choose between.

Come on, where's the votes for Macca? His work is on a par with John's.

none of them lived up to their past life in anyway. Johns first 2 are great but the rest are pretty week except for the odd song. George made one amazing album and then kind of lost it. Mccartney, Ram BOTR and V and M are all really good albums by paul but he put out a lot of shit too.

Would have made this thread myself had it not been made already. George Harrison made great songs. Interesting to hear the kind of wonderful songs John and Paul left off the albums to make room for songs like "Don't Pass Me By" and "Revolution 9". Best album is obviously All Things Must Pass, but be sure to check out George Harrison, Cloud Nine and Living In The Material World as well. Paul McCartney is my favorite Beatle, so obviously I love his solo work more than George's. I don't think anyone in the world can write melodies like he can. Ram, Band On The Run, Tug Of War and McCartney are definitely worth your precious time. Oh, and at age 70, it's incredible how good he still is. Be sure to check out Sing The Changes (The Fireman) if you don't know it already - his best song since 1982. WHAT A FUCKING LEGEND! But no doubt John Lennon's solo career was the best. He made the two greatest Beatles solo albums: Imagine and John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band, and made the greatest song any Beatle ever wrote after the split - "Imagine" is up to par with "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "A Day In The Life". I wonder who voted for Ringo...

For me its George (favourite Beatle as well, quiet but as cool as they come), closely followed by Lennon (but only for Plastic Ono Band and Imagine)

Lennon may have been the most interesting of all Beatles, but personally, his solo work falls well short of his work with The Beatles. Of course, there's great songs like Jealous Guy and such, but songs like Imagine are vastly overrated.
Come on, it's nowhere near his best Beatles songs is it?

George clearly. I feel that a lot of people are saying John just because he's John. George wrote beautiful melodies.
They all had their moments though. John with his first two and his work before his death, Paul with Band On The Run and McCartney and Ringo with his self titled album. It's just that together they made an incredible band and on their own they were never gonna equal that.

I'm VERY tempted to say George because he is my favourite Beatle. However, I think that Paul McCartney is tough to match, man. So I voted Paul

george wrote my favorite beatles song ('something'), but 'maybe i'm amazed' that macca isn't getting more votes here...
so for me, it's paul mccartney... but as others have said, they have all made brilliant records.

Anyone who voted for Paul must not have ears. His solo work has been mostly garbage.
Definitely gotta be Harrison. All Things Must Pass is miles better than any other solo Beatle.
