I didn't think much of this song when I first heard it. But just listening to it again, I really love it.
It has a really beautiful and gentle melody.

For me it's the best Liam song.

For me it's the best Liam song. I concur, even though it won a 'best Liam song' poll recently it's still not rated as highly as it should be. If Liam put the effort in arranging and songwriting into all his songs that he put into this one (instead of half-arsed bilge like Ain't Got Nottin'), I would never have a problem with his songs appearing on the albums.

Yeah, the melody is the great thing about it. My favourite Liam song aswell.
I just hope Liam can cut out his God awful rockers and concentrate on these gentle ballady songs.

Thank fuck Man of Misery is never going to see an official release. What a shit song. GGTIA is ok, not my favorite. Has some grating lyrics, but the melody is indeed nice. SB is still one of my favorite Liam songs.

I just hope Liam can cut out his God awful rockers and concentrate on these gentle ballady songs. I hope that too. His only decent rocker is MOS. GGTIA is my favorite Liam song too. It's brilliant songwriting.

I really like the lyrics.
Seems to me the song is saying: the future is wide open - who knows how any relationship will unfold?
But it's unwaveringly optimistic about this.

This song is even more poignant now. Still love it.
It's interesting how much of a difference the lead-in track makes for how much you appreciate a song. On DBTT this seemed kind of forgettable, but on my itunes it comes on after "the cost of freedom" by Crosby Stills and Nash.
The segue is perfect and this song really shines.

I love it. And the title makes me laugh... it's quite obvous that he wrote this about Noel and I think it's really sweet.

Best song on the album. Saves it just after you give up on life during The Meaning Of Soul. It just has such a nice riff and a beautiful melody. Liam means it.

Without taking anything away from the DBTT songs released (Lyla, TIOBI and LTBL were great songs), this was a song worthy of being released as a single. Along with the other three. Liam can write some fuckin tunes I will say.

Noel on Liam (and Guess God Thinks I'm Abel: "Liam's gotten all religious. It''s quite disturbing. He thinks he''s Abel for some weird reason. He wrote a new song called ''Guess God Thinks I'm Abel.'' And I thought, "Right, so you think you're Abel. That must make me Cain. Doesn't Cain kill Abel?" "But then the first line of the song is “You could be my lover.” I’m not too sure about that. That’s illegal, innit? It’s kind of illegal for two brothers to make love. It’s certainly frowned upon.”

And also (from Noel Gallagher): "For about three months, we all thought that song was called 'Guess God Thinks I'm Able,' as in an able-bodied man," he explained. "So we're coming to write the track listing one day and [Liam] goes, 'It's not f---ing "Able," it's "Abel," ' and he wrote it out and we were all kinda looking at each other, going, 'Hmmm.' I had to go back and listen to it, and then I was just sat down thinking about it and the story of Cain and Abel."
After some contemplation, he added, "I'm thinking, 'Well, that's very religious and biblical and it's a bit deep.' But ... the first line of the song is 'You could be my lover' which ... you'd have to speak to Liam about. He has a religious fixation with [Abel] and Jesus, I think. It's very strange."
You would never hear Noel saying how great it is now would you?

hard to believe so many of you like this......i can't stand this song. possibly one of the worst Oasis songs ever....i think the lyrics are completely idiotic. The end of this song is completely horrible as well.....

This is one of the best along with Love Like A Bomb. I was impressed Liam wrote it. Yes, Liam's best material seemed to be on DBTT. Also when you consider that "Boy With The Blues" was written during this time period and probably should have landed on DBTT, Liam was in peak form for himself.

Ah Boy with the Blues, I know that well. Pass Me Down the Wine was another great track from this era too!

The end of this song is completely horrible as well..... For a song written by Liam, lyrically it exceeded expectations. The song also is testament to Liam's melodic skills - it's one of the nicer tunes for Oasis as a whole, not just of the non-Noel tunes. And the ending? It was a nod to the heavier songs on the album. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel managed to represent both the light acoustic side and the classic Oasis bombast. Nothing wrong with that.
