Any fans? Are Oasis fans of Slowhand?
I'm a big fan of Clapton. I've seen him live twice. He's a beast on the guitar.

Are Oasis fans of Slowhand? He was great in Cream and early solo career, but went pretty bad after descent in hard drugs in the mid-70s, people have suggested that Noel cribbed the solo for Live Forever from Wonderful Tonight but I don't really buy that. In a shocking development, Noel slagged him off in an interview in the mid-90s when he was slagging everyone. He said they both attended an awards ceremony and gave a long, boring speech.. "we said to him, 'you're a fucking miserable bastard aren't you Clapton..'", I remember reading that quote. Then Noel said although it's been brushed under the carpet, Noel hadn't forgot (likely stoned out of his brain on H) Clapton ill-advisedly announcing his support for Enoch Powell at one of his concerts in the 70s. edit: I searched google to see if I could find Noel's exact quote about Clapton, it's here, from a 1996 article written by Irvine Welsh, published in Loaed magazine: members.lycos.co.uk/magicrecord/articles08.htmlEric Clapton: "I haven't forgotten about Eric fucking Clapton either, saying Enoch Powell was right. Like we was at the Q Awards, and Clapton got this award and he gave the most miserable fucking speech I've ever heard in my entire life. So I happen to be standing right behind him, and we're going to him, 'You're a right fucking miserable bastard, aren't you, Clapton?"'

clapton's been hit-and-miss since the mid-70s. mostly miss. however, his '94 album (from the cradle) and its supporting tour were incredible. same with the live album with steve winwood that just came out. those have great, great playing on them.
his playing was among the best of all time during his time with john mayall, cream, delaney & bonnie, blind faith and derek & the dominos.

On a similar subject, I was watching a documentary about Peter Green on Youtube and Noel was one of the participants. I was surprised to see him in it. I never took Noel to be too interested in the guitar virtuosos. For those that don't know who Peter Green is, search for him on Youtube. He was the featured guitarist in A Hard Road by John Mayall. He also started the original Fleetwood Mac. Amazing player

Happy birthday Eric Clapton!
He really hates Oasis though
CLAPTON: We were naive and dumb. We thought we were part of a big revolution. It took more than 30 years and many deaths like Jimi Hendrix's or Janis Joplin's until I realised that I, as an artist, have a responsibility to society. I thought that young bands like Oasis had learned from our mistakes. Instead they are irresponsible and arrogant. They act like hooligans. They are a load of s*** to me.
Q: Do you like any of Oasis' records?
CLAPTON: No, because there's something scornful, self-righteous about their music that nauseates me. I like bands like Radiohead or Tricky. But when I just want to feel good or need some comfort I'm almost solely listening to modern rhythm'n'blues by Puff Daddy or Babyface.

Judging the book by it's cover. Most people dislike Oasis because they don't pretend they are someone else. Those people can fuck off, as far as i'm concerned. Although that won't stop me from enjoying the music he makes.

To be fair to Eric Clapton, he has more talent in his pinkie finger than the entire sum of Oasis....
Not to say he's better, I actually prefer Oasis, but, he's Eric Clapton.
Side note: I used to live like five minutes from his Ohio home, his wife is from the Columbus area.
Also, he attends AA and NA meetings, which is cool - helping others and himself.
God bless.

I think Bonehead could give him a run for his money.

was never the biggest fan of his music but as Let It🩸 said his talent is boundless , sorta the way some dont"t appreciate stevie ray vaughn I just never got into clapton , but his talent is undeniable wishing him 70more years Sidenote don't know how many here are aware but at the blues festival where a helicopter crash claimed stevie ray Vaughn Clapton was actually in the helicopter and stevie offered to go first so he can get rest , he just became clean for about 2 years and didn't want to stay for the after party eric gave up his Seat ... the rest is history instead of Clapton crashing into mountainside srv did fate man

Yeah, he's great. A better guitarist than Noel for sure, by million times, but as a songwriter uhm... don't really know. IMHO Noel is better, now kill me Anyway i've seen him 2 times in Italy. He played with italian singer-songwriter Pino Daniele (Noel have actually stolen The Death of you and me from him, or at least was clearly inspired). He got married with italian showgirl Lory Del Santo (Lady of Verona is about her), their son died at age of 4 because he fell from a skyscraper, he then wrote Tears in Heaven.

He's a guitar god and I like him much better than Hendrix, but as a person he seems like a bit of a dick. But then again, I don't know him.
My parents have always listened a lot to Cream and Clapton, and I remember hearing Tears In Heaven for the first time and crying like a baby. Wonderful Tonight and Layla are great too (and both written for the wonderful Patty Boyd). I've pretty much grown up with that music among a lot of other great bands, but I'm not a huge fan.

Cream were great but Jack Bruce wrote most of their songs, Clapton only wrote a few. Jack Bruce was his equal on bass too. Great guitarist but endless blues soloing is a bit dull, I far prefer Neil Young for that sort of a thing. He looked pretty great in the 60's though.
