(CNN) -- Tour de France winner Alberto Contador has launched a stinging attack on Astana teammate Lance Armstrong after returning as a hero to his native town of Pinto near Madrid.
Lance Armstrong (right) looks on after Alberto Contador is handed the Tour de France trophy in Paris.
Contador told a news conference that relations between the two riders were tense throughout the race, making the atmosphere very difficult for the team as a whole.
Although not giving specific reasons why, Contador admitted the situation has affected his relationship with the American.
"My relationship with Lance Armstrong is non-existent. Even if he is a great champion, I have never had admiration for him and I never will," the 26-year-old Spaniard admitted.
"It was a delicate situation, very tense, the two riders who had most weight on the team did not have an easy relationship and that puts the rest of the technical staff and the riders in an uncomfortable position," he added.
The Spaniard, who also won the Tour in 2007, compared the situation with that of Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton at McLaren when they were colleagues.
"That situation in some way illustrated what I have experienced. But I knew that if we kept a cool head everything would be OK," he added.
Don't Miss Armstrong says doping question is done Contador seals second Tour triumph Contador poised for second Tour win With Armstrong and Astana team chief Johan Bruyneel both leaving the team at the end of the season, Contador's future also remains unclear. "We will have to see what happens. I do not know where I'll go, but I am clear that it will be a team that is 100 per cent behind me."
Contador eventually finished the race over four minutes clear of Luxembourg's Andy Schleck, with American Armstrong -- who was riding in his first Tour since completing the last of his seven wins in 2005 -- a remarkable third.
It was Contador's fourth successive grand tour victory, after he also won last year's Giro d'Italia and Vuelta Espana following the Tour organizers' decision not to invite the Astana team to the race.

@ Cantador : Poor sportsmanship no matter what sport....too bad. You'd expect 19 year olds to talk smack like that.

Contador had showed he's currently the best, and yet after that he had his boss and teammates working for Amstrong. I don't see any fault on his comments, he was in a hard situation (created by the american guy and Bruyneel) and kept his head cool. The problem comes from Amstrong. And he can be pretty happy with the Tour organisation, they made it boring and easy until the last week.

Take it like a man , not like a kid. It's not like he had a pack of high school kids riding with him. A legend deserves respect, especially after you won the race, I believe Lance's comment right after the race was: "The good thing about this race is that the best man always wins...." He was clearly talking about Contador or do I not understand Texan slang ?

then he should have been a man and not try to fuck Contador in the shadows can you point out a tactical move in the race where Lance was not in a supporting role? I can't remember Lance attacking on the mountain of day 3 after he and Contador were instructed not to by the team boss, we all know what happened that day.... was the Spanish press coverage really that one sided ? I hope not, I thought Versus with the English TDF guys did a good job commentating and they thought Lance played his role as instructed?

then he should have been a man and not try to fuck Contador in the shadows can you point out a tactical move in the race where Lance was not in a supporting role? on stage 3, a very windy stage, there was suddenly a gap (because of the heavy winds) in the peloton (incl. all the favourites). the first group consisted of several riders incl. armstrong and almost the whole team columbia. contador was in the bigger group behind. columbia was pushing very hard to get away and first armstrong didn't do something to lead the first group, but then he was also pushing very hard to gain some seconds. that move was clearly against his team captain contador. after that, armstrong said something like "you don't have to be very smart to know that you have to be in front at a windy stage like this...". i guess that was where the whole thing started.

Armstrong has proved to be a selfish vagina, forget about supporting roles and shit like that. Alberto recently told the media what was going on every night at the hotel and it was SICK, although everybody knew that. I don't know what the american media tried to tell you or if they tried to hide it to you just to show you his oh so great! supporting roles. So basically fuck lance armstrong and i'm so happy he hasn't win, but what makes me even happier is that he knows he won't win anymore in the french race. It's Alberto's time.

In the world of cycling there is an couple of equations you need some clarification on. Here, let me help you by equating it to basketball - Alberto Contador = Lance Armstrong =Any questions?

we love you too. it's an interesting debate I don't think Amstrong is like Jordan. He's far from the biggest riders: Merckx, Hinault or Indurain. The spanish champion got 5 consecutive Tours, but also run other big races those years (he got 2 Giros), not like Amstrong who just went to the Tour. It's also known that there haven't been great rivals for Amstrong, he was smart to have some of the best on his team to help him. I don't believe in the "selected trophies number" argument, anyways just give Contador a couple of years and we'll be back here talking about him

btw, Schleck agent has said Andy would never go to the same team as Amstrong after seeing what Contador has passed through
