Okay, I'll go out and say it. I love John Mayer. Guys who like him cover up for the fact that they love him by saying how great he is at guitar are bullshitting you. His lyric value is really what pulls me in. This guy has some real deep stuff. Songs like Wheel, In Your Atmosphere, Why Georgia, Dreaming With A Broken Heart, and 3X5 are truly masterpieces in the sense of lyrical value. As for his guitar, listen to Covered in Rain. The only way I can describe it is by comparing it to Champagne in the sense that it has a long guitar solo intertwined with extremely thoughtful and beautiful lyrics. Also, the man can put on a show. An amazing performer who can interact with the crowd, as well as play for hours intensely. Simply amazing. I saw him last year and it was simply incredible. Please tell me someone else out there loves John as much as I do?!?!?

My brother likes him a lot. I've liked what I've heard, though I haven't had the time to give him a thorough listen. It seems like singer-songwriter types are only cool for guys to like when they're unknown or dead. Popularity seems to be directly associated with "gayness." Kind of dumb if you ask me...

I think he's great
Just a shame he's liked by so many teeny boppers.

His last album was really, really good. Great song writer, a monster on guitar. Also, the chicks dig'em.

John Mayer is a great artist. Saw a live show a few years back. Really good. Unfortunately I think his celebrity now outshines his talent. Too much drama with Aniston. Think Lindsey Lohan. Famous for being famous when he should be in the studio.

Famous for being famous when he should be in the studio. I agree with that- it almost makes you want to question the validity of his words when he gets caught up in so much shit like that which he could just as easily avoid. Although lately he's been very quiet- and his Twitter updates really show that he is committed to the new album with the John Mayer Trio. I can't wait for it.

he's great. nothing wrong with that. he was a genius for doing what he did... getting into the collective mainstream eye with pop songs that teenage girls would fawn over, then come out with what he really wanted to play in the first place without fear.

i can't stand his voice. To be honest i think the media goes a bit crazy over him (not because of his celebrity partners or whatever) cos heres a guy who can write his own songs, can play the guitar, has some soul and is marketable for both teen girls and the guitar guys. Hardly anyone is like that on the pop charts in my opinion.

What everyone should check out of him, ESPECIALLY if they like his acoustic stuff, is the first set off of the Where the Light Is CD/DVD. The short acoustic set he does is my favorite set of live music he's ever done.
This is the best part by far:
Anyone who says they don't like JM should give this video a chance. Brilliance.
