Now, I listened to West Ryder casually on the internet before it came out - my thoughts were that it was nothing special. Saying that, I bought it on Monday and I think it's absolutely brilliant.
I'm no sucker to Kasabian either. Their first album was good, but nothing more than that. Empire, to me personally, was fucking horrific. Only the songs Empire and The Doberman were of any quality.
So you could forgive me for any previous posts of me saying they were a distinctively average band and that West Ryder is average.
I just love the whole concept of it being set in a mental institution and the variety of musical instruments on offer (something I crave for in Oasis). I love the orchestration and everything, plus Tom Meighan's singing is less laddish than on the previous records. I'm not going to go far and say they're a great band, because one brilliant record doesn't make you great, but they have certainly got themselves on the right track. Album of the year so far, no doubt.

Yes, but I just wanted an article so the die hard Kasabian fans can see my mistakes from the past. Also I'm an attention seeking little bugger.

it's far away better than DOYS... When Oasis try to do psychadelic... Kasabian Do it with 5 potential singles... (Fire, Underdog, WDATLG, Vlad, Cunny Grope Lane) and of course... West Ryder / Silver Bullet, Secret Alphabet, Hapiness... are better than all of those anthems...

Wait a minute, I've listened to loads of albums this year and the majority are fucking shit. Only really been impressed with Doves and Kasabian, so don't come with all that smart arse business thinking I'm ignorant - it is after all just my opinion. Arsehole or what. ignore him mate, i havent heard the kasabian album yet i just wondered what other kind of music you have listened to when you claim its the album of the year so far.

I forgot to mention Manic Street Preachers new album, so along with them, Kasabian and Doves, that's the only real albums I have liked this year. I like Franz Ferdinand and U2's new albums but nothing special in my opinion.

It's Journal For Plague Lovers by the Manics for me. I've yet to see such a consistant and well executed album in a long time, fucking astounding from start to finish. They've done Ritchie's lyrics proud.

I'd start with The Holy Bible or Everything Must Go.
Both those albums are brilliant.

I'd so with Everything Must Go or Send Away The Tigers. I think even Plague Lovers would be a good way to start.

I agree, the new Kasabian album is really growing on me, some really good songs on it, it does somehow sound a little empty and underproduced at times but i'm just nit-picking, much better than Empire (by a long way)
