underdog's lyrics are also class IMO
Kill me if you dare Hold my head up everywhere Keep myself right on this train
I'm the Underdog Live my life on a lullaby Keep myself riding on this train Keep myself riding on this train
Love in technicolour, sprayed out on walls Well I've been pounding at the pavement 'Til there's nothing at all I got my cloak and dagger In a bar room brawl See the local loves a fighter Loves a winner to fall
Feels like I'm lost in a moment I'm always losing to win Can't get away from the moment Seems like it's time to begin
It don't matter I won't do what you say You've got the money and the power I won't go your way And I can't take for the people They don't matter at all And I'll be waiting in the shadows 'Til the day that you fall

Dont get me wrong, I do like Kasabian....but they're far far far below Oasis in quality and societal meaning, its not even funny.
Digging some of these tune off their new album

Digging some of these tune off their new album Well, that's the thing, they don't have to be. The Oasis comparisons were, from the start, stupid and lazy journalism. Same attitude yeah, but Oasis would never do a tune like Test Transmission or Butcher Blues, and the new album distances Kasabian (for better or worse) even further from Oasis, any lad rock band, The Stone Roses, etc.

I don't know what it is about it, whether it's the way he sings it or what but it just sounds horrible everytime I hear it.

That's the point of this thread, despite the early criticism I got. Kasabian are no where near Oasis, for so many reasons. They have completely different styles, not to mention different levels of appeal, too.

I like them enough to have all 3 albums, but no way in hell are they successors! Anyone saying that is fooling themselves. By album 1 Oasis were bigger than Kasabian's first album By album 2 Oasis were bigger than Kasabian could ever dream ever By album 3 Oasis were beyond monumental, Kasabian haven't cracked anything other than England, and it's debatable if they're even bigger than Coldplay/Twang/Arctic Monkeys/Enemy....for the most part, they aren't Their lyrics are shit, for the most part. They have a good rock sound, but they don't speak to youth culture. Kasabian will be a mediocre band in England and a nothing band in the US/Worldwide. Sorry to break it to you diehard Kasabian fans. Kasabian are fine, not bad but not good either....and def. fucking not monumental. Oasis was a special band that came at the right time. The time isn't right right now for a big band to peak, nor is Kasabian amazing enough to do it. If I wasn't into Oasis and british bands/culture I'd never would have heard of Kasabian. And NO ONE in the US really knows who they are. That's sad and pathetic since they're on their 3rd album already (sad and pathetic for Enemy and Twang, too, mind, esp since the latter hasnt even released its 2007 album in the US - and u wonder why I illegally download? Fucking idiots) Kasabian is NOT the next Oasis. Anyone believe that is an idiot. - They don't have the tunes, they don't speak to the youth, and they don't have the world's attention by album 3! I was having the same conversation with my brothers Rob and John and we all agreed that they're nowhere close to what Oasis is and represents! Especially here in England. I don't understand the buzz around them! lol Please get your brothers 2 tickets for Kasabian gig and I would love to hear what they have to say after seeing them live. and once again, Oasis are Oasis, Kasabian are Kasabian. It's pointless to compare one band to other like live4evr does.

In a way, I feel like the Kasabian debut continued where SOTSOG left off. That's the only real comparison between the two I can make (other than they're both amazing bands)

Kasabian are alright at best...they have a handful of great tunes (club foot, reason is treason, underdog, empire to name a few), but they have a LOT of filler on their albums...
No where near as good as Oasis.

I thought their first album was good - nothing special. Their second album Empire was horrific, but West Ryder is a bloody brilliant piece of work. This coming from someone who was always sceptical about the band.
As much as I'm afraid to say it, West Ryder is miles ahead of Dig Out Your Soul.

Kasabian will never be the next Oasis... Oasis was here at the perfect time... Kasabian... not...
I just mean... this is the only rock band who following the same way as Oasis (in the taste, style, attitude and stadium anthem...) but not at the good period...
There will never be an other band as big as Oasis or U2 or Coldplay... and you know why...

It starts off nicely, but it's more The Swamp Song then Shoot Speed/Kill Light, in terms of quality.

Swamp song's better in the sense that swarfiga's just plain flat, absolutely NOTHING happens in that track!
West ryders surprisingly good though, Underdog and Fast Fuse are easily my 2 favourite tracks this year. Need to give a listen to Journal for plague lovers though, heard its quite good.

Journal for Plague Lovers has some of the best lyrics this year, easily. How Bradfield managed to squeeze them around those melodies is crazy.

Too fucking true man, I saw the Manics in Belfast the other day, and it was absolutely crazy. They played the new album, then an hour of hits, but before Facing Page: Top Left Bradfield was saying how it was just a bitch to tune those lyrics into melodic greatness. He said it was like the lyricists revenge and imagined Ritchie with a grin saying "Take that ya bastard!" I thought it was hilarious. Sorry for another thread hijack

I'll give Swarfiga this, it's pretty mental when you're on drugs.

Is it just me or does Swarfiga sound like the background music off some dodgy pinball machine?

So i've had this record for a few weeks now. I listen to it all the way through without skipping and still can't really get it into. It starts off hot as hell with Underdog & Where Did All the Love Go & Fast Fuse. Swarfiga does not belong in between those 3. WHoever put that in between those 3 songs is an idiot and should be ridiculed. Album drags until Secret Alphabets & Fire. Thats it
I just can't get into the other 7 tracks on the record.
