I heard the name before, but last month I watched 24 Hours Party People for the first time and learned alot more about them.
Currently downloading their albums and all of their songs, while listening to the 30 second itunes clips. Sounds rather decent.
In the years between DBTT and DOYS (2005-2008) the 2 bands I came across which I love are The Stone Roses and The Smiths
Since DOYS, the 1 half year that it's been, I've come across Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, and Suede....all respectable bands in their own right, but nothing nearly as special as the Roses or The Smiths
I'm hoping Joy Division will fill the void.
What do you all reckon.
-- And: Is New Order as good as or even better than Joy Division?
Cheers.

Ive gotta really be in the mood for Joy Division to spin an album. When I am though, they're an amazing band.
Try and download/stream Control by Anton Corbijn. Great insight into the band even if it is a bit long. Funny to see Martin Hannett too ;D

Joy division was great. New Order was awesome and did one of the best album of the 2000 : Get Ready Crystal still my best rock'n roll tune since a long time For information it was the first appearance of The Killers in the music video since they were a real band : vodpod.com/watch/315838-new-order-crystal

Try and download/stream Control by Anton Corbijn. Great insight into the band even if it is a bit long. Agree with this. Brilliant film. As for the band, they were excellent. New Order, on the other hand, were fucking awful. Two, maybe three decent songs, tops.

Download/buy Unknown Pleasures, it's one of the best albums I've ever heard, especially Disorder, one of my favourite songs ever.

NL4E, don't expect them to sound like any of the bands in your OP though. Music is very dark but excellent. You do really need to be in a certain mood to listen to them though. Controll is great too and well worth a watch

Love Joy Division, love New Order. I love "Unknown Pressure", but love "Substance" as much as "Unknown...".
Anton Corbijn did a great job with "Control". He's a great photographer. I've read the Deborah Curtis' book last year. The book was deeply darker than the film.

I have been listening to them a great deal lately. The atmosphere Unknown Pleasures has directly contrasts The Stone Roses' debut's, yet both are excellent. Definitely will be getting the vinyl re-releases coming in June.
