If Oasis were to have broken up, when should they have done it?
Each time there were many opportunities for the band to do, but because Oasis are so awesome they've braved each storm. I don't think that they should have broken up, but WHEN should they have broken up (what would have made thte most sense, the most impact, the greatest legacy, etc)
Explain....!!

Just to clarify, because some idiot voted without explaining
I voted for immediately following BHN. That would have been the time, really. Would have saved the disasters of 1998 and 1999. Plus we still would have had the Masterplan, and that would have made for a solid trilogy of albums, and a compilation disc.

Probably after Be Here Now. I remember reading somewhere that BHN is the crucial point in Oasis' history, their down fall. Now, whether or not you agree, all good stories must come to an end and I think BHN would be a good ending.

if they would have broken up after BHN it would seem it was because all the critics. I'd say maybe in 2000, after the release of FTM

when bonehead and guigsy left. that way, SOTSOG would have been the last one. no hc, no dbtt, no doys, no Gem songs... just Noel solo career, acoustic sets on gigs, no Liam fucked voice... too good to be true

That is actually a great point, Chano. Noel going solo after the band breaks up.
Liam would have started writing anyhow - and that would have been cool cos who knows where he'd be ending up!

Well Noel would never have been heard by young music listeners ever again making his influence limited. Liam wouldnt have gotten the help to write songs that he got from Gem. Liam would have started a band with some idiot indie snob mods, wrote an album full of Little James. do a small indoor tour. (fail) Loose popularity. Audition to act on Coronation Street (and fail). Make a guest appearance as a judge on Britains got talent. Hit the booze, get washed up, get snapped up by Big Brother as the ideal mentally unstable alcoholic psychopathic agro celebrity. He'd be voted out as the third last. He'd then appear on various talk shows and answer questions on "how he's turned his life around". In the meantime, Noel will have released an experimental Jazz album with Paul Weller with reaches the dizzy heights of 69 in the charts! (Kai as usual denies its shittyness and claims its the first time Noel has written something as a good if not better than Seargent Peppers) - L4E agrees. Noel retires and returns in 2015 with Liam and Gem to record a new album which is geared at making as much money and as little good music as possible (already happening). Andy Bell Joins Coldplay and travels to India to fundraise for making vegetarian meat out of grass. Jay Darlington is confirmed as reborn Christ and is frozen for preservation. ..........And we wouldnt have your beloved Heathen Chemistry I think its the best the way we got it

they should have taken a hiatus after knebworth (or better yet, not done knebworth at that point cos they were getting big way too quick for their own good) and come back with an album that would have kept the train going (better lyrics/production on half the album with the rest scrapped and used as bsides cos as good as be here now is, a lot of its songs are just too coke-ified).

After FTM came out, as then we wouldn't have had the shit awful HC. Besides FTM was the right type of setlist to call it a day I would have thought. I just think, in 2000 would have been the best time. Other than that, it would be 97 when BHN came out and was the ultimate crash course in drug filled production.
