Half the World Away: "My body feels young but my mind is very old" Setting Sun: "You said your body was young but your mind is very old" Maybe when Noel was writing HTWA he thought back to what we now know to be an early Oasis track - Setting Sun (aka Comin' on Strong) - and decided to adapt some of the lyrics of that earlier, unreleased song... OR he lazily just adapted the lyrics of some song that already existed: www.mrmonobrow.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/unheard/misc/notebook-tracklist1.jpg"Half The World Away" is listed as #30 on this page of Noel's Notebook from 1992/1993. Comin' On Strong is at least mentioned once in his infamous notebook on this page (14.): www.mrmonobrow.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/unheard/misc/notebook-tracklist2.jpgOf course, could be two different songs, but then again the probability isn't that high... I think as much as Noel borrowed melodies/chord sequences/lyrics from other artists over the years (which is of course legitimate, that's the way pop culture works) he probably plagiarised himself too, as evidenced in the case of Lock All The Doors/My Sister Lover. Also, if you look at this early draft of lyrics for what eventually became the song Morning Glory (I know it's hardly readable, but you get the idea if you sing the melory over those words), you start to wonder what else he "mashed" together: 991.com/newGallery/Oasis-The-Mirror-And-Th-318391.jpgEDIT: Just found a scan from the notebook from the original lyrics to Half the World Away, he must have already written it in 1992 or before the end of 1993: EDIT 2: Another better scan of the "The Mirror And The Razorblade" lyrics: www.mrmonobrow.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/monobrow/unheard/misc/notebook-rcdec98-page2.jpg (on the upper left side). I find it really fascinating to sing these words to the tune of Morning Glory until I get to the bridge... Attachments:

Thanks for posting all those links asimarx! Great reading. And many thanks to Mr Monobrow for making the scans available to view.
Hadn't noticed there was a song called My Friend Said before... Putting 2&2 together I can imagine that coming to mind when Noel was stuck for lyrical inspiration at the Pink Museum, December 1993:)
Also I hope there is a demo of the song Rodney out there somewhere! A touch of Only Fools and Horses influence perhaps?!

A touch of Only Fools and Horses influence perhaps?! Thanks David, that's a really interesting point there with the Supersonic lyrics. So far I can identify the following song titles from Noel's notebook that might be connected to the song (and existed probably long before they entered the Pink Museum studios): Alkerseltzer Helicopter Helicopter Doctor My guess is that Noel had most of the lyrics finished when they recorded Supersonic. You know, as history is told, the song developed from a jam and the engineer Dave Scott suggested to record rather that, than the originally planned (to be recorded) Bring It On Down and I Will Believe. It always comes across (for example in the DM-dvd) as if they had made up Supersonic (at least the lyrics) on the spot. That's a great way to tell a story, of course, and Noel is notorious for that...("why try to recreate genius...") but I really think, in some way, he is ALWAYS prepared! EDIT: The last piece of the puzzle might have even been the farting dog, Elza...and Noel would have gone: There you go, lyrics finished!

Good detective work, asimarx. Thanks for posting that!
How about I Know a Girl - maybe a working title for Headshrinker? And Song in a Suitcase might've been the starting point for Underneath the Sky ("all he needs is his life in a suitcase...").

^^There's more: Little Things - (It's Good) To Be Free Sunday Morn' (another piece of the Morning Glory lyrics?) Blue/Being A Blue - sources say they developed either into Acquiesce/Morning Glory or even both!? Swamp - The Swamp Song Live By The Sea - (It's Good) To Be Free (might be parts of lyrics pieced together) Feed Your Head - Stay Young Freedom - Fade Away (now that's ridiculous, but have you ever heard "Freedom" by Wham?) Mentioned, but released later (than Definitely Maybe): Going Nowhere Listen Up Hello! All Around The World Half The Worlf Away She's Electric Rockin' Chair Like Alan McGee said (scotch accent): "I believe he got the first three album ready, before he first met me." Fascinating stuff, really.

Good work on all the above!
Re Feed Your Head - there is also the similar line in Rock 'n' Roll Star of course ("then they said I should feed my head") and I wonder if Noel was thinking of the Jefferson Airplane song White Rabbit at the time (which ends on the repeated line "feed your head" - in itself quoted from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland if I recall rightly). Some of the lines in the Masterplan evoke those stories for me as well - the stuff about "four and twenty million doors on life's endless corridor" and the answer being "in the looking glass..."

For TCT 2007 Noel changed the end of the verse melodies in Sad Song. "...try to put a word in for ME ... you better put into a THREE" etc. It gets very annoying once you notice it.

At the end of Where Did It All Go Wrong semi-acoustic promo version there's a track-ending whispering from 4:22 onwards ("Is that all right...?"). I tend to skip the ending, so I was quite surprised when I let the song run out once on the way to work.

Clicking in random songs is enough for getting interesting info. www.songfacts.com/artist-oasis.phpI bet some users of this forum contributed to fill oasis songfacts, right?

Lock All The Doors
from 3.12 to 3.26,
you can hear (probably) Liam singing the first verse in the back, very subtle.

Speaking of Lock All The Doors, I've just been listening to The Real People's Marshmellow Lane Album and Track 4 My Own Dream contains the line 'Lock All The Doors' several times (at the start and around 2:15 in the song) coincidence ? We know Noel "borrowed" the chorus to Don't Go Away from Feel The Pain from this album too.
The Real People also have a songs called Going Nowhere and Dream On on their What's On The Outside Album (Although didn't Noel write his track Going Nowhere in like 1990 ?)

I can't be the only one who's noticed that Beady Eye's Morning Son sounds pretty much identical to Just Getting Older

I remember seeing him play drums on that song on the Dig Out Your Soul bonus DVD. So yeah Bag It Up would be another but I'm not sure about The Turning and I pretty sure he didn't play drums on The Shock Of The Lightening.
