songbird
what exactly are you using this for?
to author your own dvds ie create title pages, chapter pages, menus (with/without animations), etc?
OR just to convert the file format and then burn to dvd?
if its the latter the forget this and use avs video converter to convert the files and then burn
you ONLY need avs dvd authoring if you are creating dvds with chapters, menus, title pages etc and if like you say you are crap with computers then i have a sneaky feeling that is not what you are trying to do

I suggest you take 10 minutes to read this www.avs4you.com/Guides/index.aspxand probably this www.avs4you.com/Guides/How-to-split-a-DVD-into-chapters.aspxauthoring a dvd takes a LOT of time and processing. it makes sense that ammount of time you say it takes in your first post. but it depends on the original files you're putting and how much the software has to process and render (sp?). and about that error, you have to post what it says otherwise it's hard to say hope any of that helps

I think every software takes the same ammount of time if they have to do a full processing/converting. I hardly do any DVD authoring, it takes a lot of time. I just burn the files with nero, creating data dvds, because that way I can put more files in one DVD and I can see them with my PC or dvd player the same.
