Here's review from TODAY newspaper www.todayonline.com/articles/312432.asp Online Only – Oasis concert review Brit foursome Oasis turn in one of the best shows we’ve seen this year Christopher Toh christophertoh@mediacorp.com.sg In a pre-show interview on Sunday, Liam Gallagher, the lead singer of the Mancunian band, promised a show that would rock. And Oasis delivered. “I think we always do a decent show,” he said. “It’s the crowd who really make the difference.” Their show in Korea, for example, was great because the crowd was mad for it, he said, whereas he felt a bit bummed out by a show in America because someone was asleep in the front row. “I mean, how could he sleep with all that noise? Why was he even there?” he mused. Liam needn’t have worried. On Sunday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Oasis turned in one of the best shows we’ve seen this year. So just how does one guarantee a concert will rock? Well, here are some tips (the Oasis way): GET LOUD Oasis relied on the one thing that always gets crowds going: Volume – and lots of it. From the brash opening of Rock ‘*’ Roll Star, Lyla and Shock of the Lightning, you got a sonic blitzkrieg that only stopped when the show ended. DO WHAT YOU DO BEST “We hardly ever change the set list,” said Liam, “because we’re lazy.” But hey, practice makes perfect, and apart from a couple of slow starts, the concert ran on without a hitch. Another Oasis trick: Writing songs with irresistible choruses that everyone can sing to. Like fan Tan WY uttered: "You don't know the words to the verses, but everybody knows the choruses to songs like Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova or Morning Glory." BE ‘ORDINARY’ As Liam said, “I’m not a performer. I don’t even see myself as a rock star. I do ordinary things like playing with the kids, going to a movie ... ” His onstage “act” still consists of ordinary stuff like standing still, balancing the tambourine on top of his head, standing still, walking about, standing still, occasionally pointing at someone ... and did we mention standing still? It worked though. GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO FANS Liam was a good mood, taking pictures with fans and journalists during the interview sessions and signing autographs. During the show he even gave a shout-out to an interviewer named Andrea who turned 30 on Sunday, as well as “the ladies in the front row” (that was us!!!); while brother Noel Gallagher dedicated a song to “that bloke in the wheelchair”, a bunch of Scots in the audience, and “the guys standing behind the ladies in the front row”. END OFF WITH A BEATLES SONG Despite Liam’s reticence at others covering Oasis’ songs – he thought Ryan Adams’ cover of Wonderwall was “crap”, and said he told Chris Martin of Coldplay not to cover Songbird ever again, because “it was terrible” – he’s not averse to giving the Oasis treatment to other people’s songs. In this case, The Beatles’ I am the Walrus, which the band performed as their raucous finale, getting everybody to chime in with the “woooohs” during the song’s chorus. As far as concerts go, Sunday night at the Oasis show was a communion of band and fans. Long may we have such celebrations.
