Quess we have a chance to get rid of the deadwood, Butt, Owen, Viduka and start afresh. Without wanting to appear biased, I think Nicky Butt's exactly the kind of player you need to be hanging on to. Someone with a bit of grit and determination, and who isn't afraid to dig in when the going gets tough. With players like him, Nolan, Smith, and Taylor around you stand a fighting chance of coming straight back up. You're right about Owen and Viduka though. Not to mention a few others.

Butt is actually one of our more hated players. He tries but the end product isn't usually great. Thought himself and Nolan lost the ball in the middle today and there passing was a bit poor. Then agains, surely they'd be better in the championship. I'll cry if Ameobi gets the 9 shirt

He tries but the end product isn't usually great. Same as when he was at United. Depends more on how he operates in your midfield. He's better at providing defensive cover and breaking up attacks than he is at dictating play; you're never going to get a good passing game from him. What you will get is effort. Assuming Shearer stays on, which I imagine he will, I'd fucking decimate that squad in the summer and start again from scratch. I struggle to think of ten players I'd want to hang on to.

Pretty much the thoughts of every Newcastle fan. The ones we do keep will be the young lads that are on low wages. Would love to keep Bassong but I think he'll be one of the first to go. I'm very interested to see where Owen goes. Can't think of anyone who would want him. Should be made sell pies at St. James' till he pays back his debt.

From what I've seen of them - and I'll admit that isn't a great deal - they look handy. Martins especially. Still, expect they'll probably be amongst the first ones out of the exit door, given that they're likely to command half-decent transfer fees. Owen's knackered, if you ask me. He's going to have to take a massive pay cut either way. Amazing to think that he's the same player who won the Ballon D'or only eight years ago.

With good service Martins would be a great addition to any top 4 team. Coloccini isn't up to the pace of the Premiership imho. Gutierrez I would like to see in a team with decent forwards. On a side note I was happy the fans didn't cry for the sky cameras. They sang their hearts out and gave sky nothing to mock us about. Wish I could say the same for the players.

Had a decent spell 1998-2001, but other than that he's been pretty shit. No wonder he ended up on Newcastle!

No wonder he ended up on Newcastle! Theo Walcott much? No fucking doubt, 100% with you here. Although Wenger isnt helping by playing him out of position in the wing. But yes, the English media need to shut the fuck up and stop hyping English talent.

The damn English media hyped this kid in 1998 and he never really lived up to it. Career average of a goal every other game. England's fourth highest goalscorer of all time. Recipient of the Ballon D'or at the age of 22. Moving to Real Madrid was a mistake, certainly, but you have to remember that he's suffered two serious injuries in his time at Newcastle. Otherwise, I'd say he was doing a pretty good job of living up to the hype.
