I loved this album from 2005-2008, and still like it. But, as I've said before, DOYS really puts it in it's place. It's only after comparing it to DOYS that I can fully understand the bland argument, although that makes sense since the band were going for a stripped down sound in 2005, and a groove based rocker in 2008.
And while I do hate when reviewers judge albums based on previous albums by the same artist, which is one of the main reasons why no one will ever say an album is as good as DM/WTSMG even if it is, I do have to agree with All Music Guide dropping it from a 4.5/5 to a 4/5 after the release of DOYS, and subsequently giving DOYS the 4.5/5 - spot on ratings, in my opinion.
I don't really mean this to be a comparison between the two albums, but it's kinda hard not too. DBTT has some better lyrics (POTQ, KTDA, etc) but the lyrics aren't much worse on DOYS and the sound is HUGE on DOYS.
But, at the end of the day, I guess this is a good sign. Here we have a very good and solid album in DBTT but because the follow up was even better (imo) it's seen as less good - really shows the quality of Oasis, doesn't it? Just consistently good.
I still love TUTS, Lyla, POTQ and TIOBI I've gone off of LLAB, although the piano at the end is still mega. The lyrics for KTDA are incredible, but I still feel the production doesn't do it justice. LTBL they still fucked up as it could have been mega. TMOS I never listen to anymore And ABWR is boring.
Ranking on the albums I listen to most: 1.) DM 2.) DOYS 3.) BHN 4.) SOTSOG 5.) DBTT 6.) HC 7.) WTSMG
Ranking of the albums by quality: 1.) DM 2.) WTSMG 3.) DOYS 4.) BHN 5.) DBTT (tied with BHN) 6.) SOTSOG 7.) HC
If the next album follows this trend and makes DOYS seem boring, I'm going to be duly impressed. And it's a real possibility, Oasis have found their passion again!

In 05 and 06 I played DBTT nearly every day. I just spun the record for the first time in months. I really, really enjoy this record. It has such a great flow. I think this record, was a great leap forward for Oasis. They decided to get down to basics. Its very retro. Very different (in a good way). But its still Oasis. I think you really hear a lot of their influences really coming through in the record. Its one of the few oasis albums I can't get tired of. Its so much fun to listen to and sing along to.
NL4E, in regards to your complaint about LTBL. I think the purpose was to keep it stripped down. They could have brought in an orchestra, guitar solo, etc. But, I think they wanted to keep it low key. They had just written SCYHO on HC. It had the strings and all that. So I think they wanted to keep it the opposite of that song.

LTBL is great i don't get all the hate. DBTT is still their most consistant album track by track i think. It flows great too

I listened to it a bit the other day Liam's songs sound the freshest and Lyla, TUTS, LTBL and POTQ are all great too. Most of them are great to sing along to

I listened to dbtt more in 2005 than I have listened to dots sinebits release. If I had to choose one, desert island scenario, it would be dbtt without doubt. Don't care about the production, the fact isthat there are more good songs on dbtt.

Yea easily Liam's best songwriting album. I love LLAB, GGTIA is a good tune, and even MOS wasn't horrible until he made part 2 (AGN)

Listening to DBTT at this very moment.... been a long fkn time. Kinda forgot how good it was. Flows great as said. From "TUTS" to "LTBL" it's a damn solid album. Though some tracks get on my nerves from time to time... especially Love like a Bomb.

Great album, DBTT did Oasis relevant once again, 2005 was a great year for Oasis BTW.
For me it's 8,5/10, all tracks are good, but theres some annoyances like the Liam crap vocals on LLAB, shit-repetition-5 min long on KTDA and LTBL because of the demo which is more heartfelt and sincere than the album version.

I was madferit when it came out. And it really is a top album. It's definitely stronger than DOYS, and I'll always dig it.

the only aspect of it that really gets me is that it isn't very rocking. other than that, it's a great album. sometimes i even like it more cos its so different in that way from most oasis albums; the acoustic / pounding drum combo (the meaning of soul, part of the queue) is so fucking cool.

I loved the album as it was a great return by Oasis to shut the critics up. Some songs i just still to this day arent keen on (Part of the queue, guess god thinks i'm abel) but theyre not that bad.
Remember the day this album leaked, spent most of the summer playing this constantly. Lyla wasnt bad, i still think of the polish leak with the 'wagga wagga' comments at the end as i listened to that leak a ton !
Very good album, good memories from it when i hear any of the songs.

Its the one Oasis record I cannot skip a song. Everything blends together perfectly. Not their best record, but one of the best.

I can't listen to it anymore. It's just too bland and the production is boring as fuck. I still listen to TIOBI though.

Great record, I can't believe it's four years. It hasn't aged a bit, well, not like Heathen Chemistry has anyway. It's a real summer album. I love the stripped back sound. As time goes on I cant choose between DBTT and DOYS. Both are as good (or as bad) as eachother.

I really liked DBTT at the time, still a lot of great songs on it but i'm still playing Dig out your soul tons.
The other albums really really bring back memories for me. Whats the story morning glory i played tons back in the day, my ex was at uni during those years so often went to Leicester blasting out the album, constantly putting on their songs on the jukebox etc.
Definitely Maybe again brings back amazing memories, really god into Oasis after hearing Slide Away and loved this 'raw' album. Played the video of the gig at bournemouth a ton back then which they released.
Be Here Now had so much hype, at the time i really liked the album, dont play it so much nowadays. For me standing on the shoulder of giants is a great underated album and one i play a lot. Heathen Chemistry i loved the songs they released, but she is love i just hate big time.
Dont believe the truth was a great return to form , thought it was a real good summer album. A lot of great songs on that album.
Its exciting as anything when a new album arrives, hearing bits of each song (it was good last year with 30 secs of every DOYS song), just a shame you get a ton of numpties hear making out theyve heard/got the album months before when most of them are lying

It's miles better than Dig Out Your Soul and when we look back on these two when the next one comes out, we'll all be admitting it. DBTT may be the album that got me heavily into 'albums' because I realized that an album didn't have to be made up of weak filler and the singles, like most pop albums at the time, and so I started to go deeper and I have this great record to thank for it.

DBTT is a 1000000000000 times better than DOYS. I can't listen to DOYS all the way through, whereas i really enjoy DBTT, really good feel to it.

I've been going on a DBTT craze i've listened to the album like 10 times in the past 4 days. Really the album is so damn solid. I've even grown to like the tracks that didn't hit me at first.(aka Mucky Fingers, A Bell Will Ring, The Meaning Of Soul). Its brilliant. I'm not gonna compare it with DOYS because they are different albums DBTT is a stripped down, with a retro kinks feel to it where as DOYS is heavy and trippy. Its like comparing apples to oranges.

So I was was watching LDSMD again and I'm just wondering does anybody know of a youtube or mp3 of this DBTT tour version of Rock n roll star. I think I would prefer listening to it than the original, much more energy, so if anybody has a quality recording send it this way. thanks.
