It's been said quite a few times, and the more I think about it the more I agree with this concept. Almost all of us hate the demo version, notoriously known as Nothing on Me. It was so bad that I proclaimed out of the 3 leaked tracks (RM, STC, NOM) it had NO chance of making the album. The demo was sloppy, poorly arranged, etc. No way in hell is NOM a good song. As for the album version, AGN, they cleaned it up, and edited it a bit (Noel backing vocals, if I remember correctly?) Still by no means a classic Oasis song; the lyrics are pretty daft (although no where near the epic shitness of PYMWYMIS, LJ, ICAL, etc etc, ie, it's def not one of Oasis' worst song, if anything TNOR is the closest we come to that on DOYS). The comparisons to MOS are correct, imo. And I know MOS divides a lot of us, and while like MOS because it's a great song to play when you're pissed off, it's decent at best. But I feel that AGN is a better man's MOS, without the "anger" element to it. The drumming is reminiscent of Bring It On Down, which is awesome, and the crazy solo part near the end is indeed ace and worth the 2min 14 seconds. I know when DOYS came out, I ALWAYS skipped AGN. In fact, I normally skip it now, too, but have found it grow on me. I really do think that our mental pre-disposition that it's crap is due to its demo counterpart. Is it as good as Live Forever? Of course not. Is it as decent filler as Girl in the Dirty Shirt? Heh. Perhaps? Perhaps not? Is it as bad as TNOR? No. Is it one of Oasis' worst released songs even? HELL NO (PYMWYMI, ICIAL, LJ, HIANP, FON, BM, etc etc are worse by considerable margin; hell I even hate ABWR more [but that's a controversial opinion.....Me? Controversial? Never! ] Personally, I think we should take AGN for what it is - decent filler, and rather not one of their worst songs ever. Anyone else agree that the demo NOM ruined this track for alot of us?

More like, AGN ruined what DOYS could have been. This song and GOYHHL are, i'm sure, the songs noel's talking about when he says the weren't supposed to be on the album. If Liam had decided to come into the studio the two weeks or whenever he decided to take off we'd have two much better tracks (according to noel), and some decent demos on the singles - which might have helped them in the charts. I mean, why would i buy a single with a bunch of remixes?

AGN is horrible. The album version is even worse than the demo.

You just like different styles of oasis music, there's nothing wrong with that, and there's nothing wrong with 'nothing on me'. I preferred the demo, the drums sound a lot better on it. Oh well.

Nah, AGN was bad to begin with. I almost hate everything about it except for maybe the solo near the end. I'd say it's a step above 'Better Man' (Liam's worst song to date.)
And Soldier On is almost just a bad...
So Liam really sucked it down on DOYS. Damn you, Liam! Damn you...

I think AGN is disproportionately hated, but I think it's more for the fact that it took the place of "Come On, It's Alright" or "Record Machine" rather than the lackluster demo. I think AGN is a decent little rocker, and would probably have more defenders if it was a b-side and wasn't played at every god damn concert. It's got those lopsided drums, spooky backing vocals and a cool guitar parts. And shitty lyrics, yeah.
I also have to take issue with your commendation of Girl in the Dirty Shirt as decent filler. I absolutely love that song! It's in my all-time Oasis top 20. Pure pop majesty

AGN is a nice tune, good as TMOS of DBTT, that part with the screams and the strings is great.

AGN is better than TMOS I think. But it is no more than b-side quality.
Even then, imagine this as a b-side in the 90s? Ack.

Aint got nothing has real punk rock energy to it - but it either needs to be sped up, or, with it's current tempo, it needs more guitar.
I think with some serious fuzzed-up ominous guitar, it would be a bit like like early stooges, and with a poppier guitar solo it would resemble headshrinker. It has that energy. The version on the cd now is a bit monotonous because the vocals, drum and rhythmic guitar are all on the same tempo, and roughly in the same range.
So, my verdict: good skeleton of a song - but needs more freaking guitar!

A solo in the middle would've been a nice addition.

As for Ain't Got Nothin, it's just a retread of Meaning of Soul - we heard Liam write a song like that, we don't need almost an exact carbon copy. When I heard the demo,I immediately disliked it, but that's mainly because I had heard Record Machine and Stop the Clocks, which are two of Oasis' best songs this century in my opinion. I have never gotton bored of them - they'd better release them, cos that's the way forward for Oasis. As for Buttcheeks, aren't you N4LE? You have the same profile picture, and you come from Washington D.C. (which is a great city).

You have the same profile picture, and you come from Washington D.C. (which is a great city). All 'Soldier On' is a lame excuse for a closer, just like what 'Better Man' was to Heathen Chemistry. It has lyrics that mean nothing and a riff that sounds like it was stolen from their own 'Who Feels Love?'. I mean, come on... it comes nowhere close to Champagne Supernova or Let There Be Love. Otherwords, don't have a Liam tune as a closer, simple as that. And I prefer 'The Meaning of Soul' (a song about Liam rejecting Bono's, I believe it was Bono, religious offer and clearly saying he's just a different type of individual than who he is) over 'Ain't Got Nothin'' (a song about Liam being in the slammer and no one having anything on him). I know the meaning of a song doesn't make up what it sounds like, but I just like TMOS a whole lot more and I actually don't mind listening to it other than AGN. I agree, for the most part, 'Record Machine' has a lot of potential of being the next great Oasis epic. With Liam and even Noel both on lyrics, kind of like an 'Acquiesce' type duet, we could have a real gem in the future. But 'Stop the Clocks' is a little different. Too much hype and build around it. I didn't exactly think "Wow, this is the best song Noel has ever written." But it's just a demo, so who knows what it'll sound like if it ever sees the light of day.

The demo was better cause the solo could be heard far clearer and the strings sounded better then whatever they used (keyboard) for the middle 8.
