Almost titled this "Oasis concert - 12/19/08" but figured that would look odd on a British band's message board. Anyway, i'm going to the show tonight. I've only seen a handful of concerts before (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Modest Mouse, mc chris) and usually i'm in Philly. So this will be my first Oasis concert and first concert in the Susquahanna Center (or however you spell it). My only hope is they play To Be Where There's Life. It's my favorite on the new record. And I equally wish they would play D'You Know What I Mean? but they never play any songs from that album. Anyone else going tonight?

they will play To Be Where There's Life... they have been playing it this entire tour I think. the intro to that song live is ludicrous it's so good. and no chance of D'You Know, sadly. I think they played My Big Mouth a couple times this tour but that was about as much play as Be Here Now has gotten since '97, ha!

Not sure what you mean by "everyone heading down" but the concert itself is at 7:00 EST tonight. How long have the opener(s) been playing for, and how long until Oasis comes out after? From my understanding, a band called the Cardinals or something is coming on first and then Oasis.

At MSG Matt Costa came on around 7:35 and played for about 20 minutes. Then Ryan Adams came on 5-10 minutes later and played for about 45 minutes. Then there was a 30-40 minute break before Oasis came on.

Oasis are gonna blow your mind. Bet the house on it. I will use this post to kick off my drunken rant. Don't worry, I wasn't drunk at the concert. I didn't even buy a beer (although that might have to do with the fact I didn't have a single cent on me at the time), but I decided to get smashed in the spirit of Oasis when I got home. So in short, yes. It was an awesome concert. The arena or hall or whatever the Center was called was amazing. It really felt like the first "concert" i've been to. I've seen the Chili Peppers in a hockey arena and smaller bands/acts in standing only venues, but the Susquehnna Center was fantastic. I loved it. I can't say it blew my mind, however. Not after i've seen the Peppers play. The Red Hot Chili Peppers play with so much compassion... all of them. They're all older than the members of Oasis, yet still jump around stage and play their lives out all night. Yet the dudes of Oasis, especially Liam, just stand there. Sure, it is a completely different experience. But what it really came down to was the Encore. When Noel did that acoustic version of Don't Look Back In Anger... i'm not even a big fan of that song, and that was probably the highlight of the concert. He played with so much compassion the entire time I was staring at him and thinking, "this man is a legend." Watching Noel do Don't Look Back In Anger is probably the best thing i'll ever see, musically, for the rest of my life. I loved how he let the crowd sing the last three lines of the song themselves. And then Liam comes back on... I mean his vocal style is intriguing, a bit different, and even exciting. But i'll take a guy who at least tries like Noel over a guy who doesn't any day. Liam was the real reason this wasn't the best concert i've ever been to. But yeah. Short version: Great ****ing concert. One of the best nights of my life. I want to see them again. To Be Where There's Life and Don't Look Back In Anger were the highlights, and it was awesome how everybody was standing throughout the entire concert.

From what I wrote in the other thread:
Incredible! Mind blowing, even. This band is truly special......not only do they write good songs, not only have they remained consistently good and popular over 14 years, but they also perform one hell of a show live - and this is when they're supposedly 'past their prime'!
Liam was on top notch again! Slide Away, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, and Morning Glory had expecially good vocals.
I will make a separate thread about my new hypothesis about his voice when I have more energy, but I think that DBTT tour was just a poor tour for him overall, and that his voice is fine in reality. Sure its changed, sure its not as good as 1996, but it's def not as bad as 2006. You can see he worked on it, and you're now seeing the results. Liam still has it. The band still have it. And its ashame that we, including me, wrote them off only a couple of years ago. I'm now fully confident they can tour and peform live at this high level for years to come.
Hell, I even told my friend about Liam's voice problems recently. After Wonderwall finished, that friend turned me and said "I thought you said his voice was bad now....?" - That says it all, really.
DLBIA, TMP, CS, and Wonderwall were the gig's highlights, and really gave me a sense of what this concert would be like in England with real hardcore fans who don't just attend for the hits. That's my next goal, to see the lads in London.
On a side note, I feel bad for Ryan Adam. I didnt know anything about him before this gig (Bar his cover of Wonderwall) and I really enjoyed his performance. The abuse he got from the crowd was unwarrented.
Noel and Liam were funny as usual, with Noel claiming he was lucky to be playing the country's murder capital, and Liam tell the crowd that they're good, but not as good as us (the band).
Can't wait to do this again. Mega time. And next time I'll be sure to have a DD so I can drink.
My throat hurts. I have no voice. I'm knackered. Was a great deal of fun. The boys still have it. Amazing.

Yes! I was thinking exactly the same thing a few times throughout this concert. Just staring at Noel and thinking: "Did you really write that? Did you really compose this entire song?"....it really is mind blowing when you think about that. He really is a genius. Like, you really don't get a grasp of how important these guys are/were or how great the songs are unless you're in this type of enviornment. Anyone at today's concert, or anyone's who's seen Oasis live, KNOW that they WILL go down as one of the greats. No doubt about that in my mind. Great show tonight.
