I understand that they are large files becasue they are the 'same' quality as original and i can play them on media player if i download some plugins.
But what about for my ipod can i play them as FLAC's or do i need to recode them, if so is it worth getting them or just sticking to mp3?
Cheers

your ipod wont play flacs so you would have to convert them to play them.
Ive always stuck to mp3 as iTunes can play them as can many other players, ones own personal opinion really. If you were interested in having FLACs there are some plugins that you can use to play them with popular music players, but I dont think you can with iTunes without converting them.

gazza its personal taste but i always go for flacs cos if i burn em i play em on my hifi
also when i convert for the ipod i can then do an uncompressed conversion to preserve quality
you can d/l videora ipod converter free to do this
you can download winamp free to play em on the pc
try see what you think
