What's happened. So much promise. At one stage it was No 5 in the US and No 1 in many countries.
But now its No7 in the UK even-that is terrible and no where to be seen in the US.
It is Number, huh um, 61 in Australia- Queens Greatest Hits is outselling it!
I have to say I did initially love it and played it for 10 days solid but now I'm over it.
Maybe I played it too much but my biggest critisism on reflection is that it sounds too retro.
Why can't they make cutting edge music again.
Yes DOYS is excellent in a 60's way but I don't go for 60's music that much.
Even I can't defend it from people who say it sounds like teh Beatles. It does. Why this fascination with that dire psycheddellic stuff and this period in the Beatles career-revolver, The White Album. Sorry not for me..
Maybe some singles will revive it?
I know Dave Sardy wanted songs to fit the mood so it was calculated to sound Beatlesey .
heres hoping the next one doesn't sound so Retro/

I'm still digging it. I don't give a shit where it is in the charts. I like the sound on it and I don't think it's retro either. If anything it's the most modern Oasis album to date. Don't Believe The Truth sounded retro and it looks like (from what Noel has said) that the next album will sound similar to DBTT. So to bad for you.

The market works differently now with the onset of P2P. Naturally Indie/Rock bands tend to do well for a week or two, and then the downloads kick in from music sites and the sharing with friends kicks in. Pop acts tend to be liked by all, bout tend to sell a fraction of what a big rock group would sell in a day.. in a week.. Just to point out..
Dig Out your soul on a well known torrent site.. 1402 seeds, 579 downloading (3 other torrents amount to about 700 seeds and 100 downloading)
Viva La Vida 1748 seeds, 348 downloading (about 3 others with 1000 seeds and 100 downloading)
Only by the Night main torrent 1200 seeds, 150 downloading (3 others amounting to about 1000/100)
Pink on the other hand.. 1500 seeds, 1200 downloading!
Now consider what matters..
500,000 £60+ tickets sold between 8am and 3pm last Friday?

To be frank, whilst I love them, they have never made "cutting edge music".

since when did OASIS make a 'cutting edge' album
DOYS isnt all that 'Beatlesy', like every Oasis album - Oasis will sound like a cross between the Beatles, The Stones, Stone Roses, Kinks etc.
So yet again Oasis have delivered that album and what an album it is.
You mite think the album is retro but define retro....i mean if Take That release an album which sounds like there first one, thats not retro, its just what they do.
Oasis have always worn colours on their sleeves, so why are you trying to get something else outta them,
this is OASIS...like its been for 17 years

For me DOYS has been building up and I've been listening to it through to the end more and more. The first 8 songs are ridiculously good (minus HHL which is OK).

What are you on about? We're now 3 weeks past since the official release, rapidly approaching the 1 month mark. How many albums remain #1 for a month? None. Get over it.

look if oasis are popular in teh charts that's good but if they're not that's okay by me as well. in fact i like how here in canada they're not massive but they're known, that way the radio doesn't kill the songs.
and honestly you're the ones getting the music. oasis may care about how many they sell but you shouldn't. you're still getting quality music.

It might have been #1 for only a week in the UK but it did sell hell of a lot. Not that that even matters at all. And I think it's gonna be around for a long time. There'll be new singles and the super-gigs in the summer are also gonna "revive" the album. DOYS is the greatest Oasis album in recent history, no matter how it does on the charts. I love it!

The album has so far lacked a killer single. It's done pretty well considering.

Easy answer: Oasis is an "old" band. 95% of their fans will buy it within the first 7 days and they (Oasis) are just not to going to be changing any "non-fans" minds no matter what they do. Another strong single would help, but certainly not make a mountainous difference, to be sure.
This time around, I'm sure some newcomers who liked DBTT may have made the trip to the store, but you can be guaranteed that hundreds of thousands more stole it off the i-net.
Simple as that.

Look at most of the records on there. Where is the Who, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Zeppelin, Radiohead, Oasis...... well..... yeah, I mean cummon, the vast majority are sountracks, musicals, and compilations. Terrible. Anyhow, Oliverlewis: who fucking cares about the top album anyhow? North Americans are going to buy nonsense garbage that's big on the radio. I don't think Oasis care about that. The only thing that matters, chart-wise, is the UK. Oasis were up top. That's all they needed. Who cares, you know.

Oasis aren't going to be big in the charts. Almost everyone seems to have just gone deaf and listen to awful awful music. With stupid RAP music, POP (bad pop at that, like PINK! ick) and stupid kid bands (Jonas Brothers in the US... fucking shite is what it is!), there is a small chance that Oasis will sell super well.
Maybe when that music just GOES AWAY (that would be a dream) Oasis can become huge again.

Oasis have enough fans in the US to make their albums reach the top ten, but after the initial fans buy it, unless theres a strong single it will fall. DOYS really doesn't have, as a poster above stated, a killer single, so non-oasis fans have no reason to buy the album.

What are you moaning about? Just because it doesn't sell 20 million like Morning Glory, face it, no other Oasis album (or any album for that matter) will be so massively successful ever again. Oasis may only sell 2-3 million copies of this album, but thats still bloody good for any band in these modern times. Arctic Monkeys only sold about 1.5 million of their last album, Oasis still outsell 99% of any other contemporary rock/indie band, and thats special for a band thats been going 14 years

I take back what I said about DOYS- I played it again and it's brilliant. I was looking for an excuse NOT to like it. It's such a shame that such a brilliant album is being generally overlooked.
As for teh cutting edge debate DM WAS im ny opinion the most influential album of teh 90's. It sounds like nothing else.
I just wish oasis would put out another album NOT like anything else.
Falling Down is on the right track. Its not in any particular genre and is quite experimental.

Falling Down is on the right track. Its not in any particular genre and is quite experimental. Nothing to take back man. We all agree that this is a great album. But oasis fans need to realize that their moment in the sun, so to speak, has passed. Oasis, as is currently viewed by the general public, is a band that tours the world playing their hits from the past. And to be honest, yes, they are a band like Aerosmith, or Bon Jovi. (and before you curse me to the high heavens, remember that these bands have sold a ton more records than Oasis.) These bands have dedicated fans just like Oasis, and they swear by new releases as well, saying, "This is their best shit ever." But deep down they know it isn't. Oasis may put out a few good songs now and then, but it's hardly the albums of the past. The band made two masterpieces. They're legends in OUR eyes. Rock on.
